Tanks currently always start with AP shells loaded, so when I swap to the HE I have to fire/ waste a shot.
Please add the option next to the tank squad selection to choose which shell to have loaded from the get-go.

if you are going ask this, allow planes too and weapons who can be auto or semi and they are as semi as default
Usually you don’t have a chance to use up the armor-piercing rounds alive.
So not a big problem
What OP is suggesting is the same as to not have a round loaded at spawn, which I agree.
Here is a quick solution until DF takes action:
As soon as you spawn your tank, fire your AP shell than switch to HE, this way you get your shell back unless you leave spawn/restock area very quickly.
