Some tanks (assault guns) dont have machineguns for close defense, in those cases the commander should be able to use his SMG and maybe even grenades to defend against attacking infantry while looking out of his hatch.

Got the Premium StuG in Normandy and would really appreciate at least some minor self defense mechanism.

Absolutely, they should be able to use SMG/pistol/binocular when they are looking outside the hatch

Devs are too lazy to animate this honestly, commanders are stiff as a board though I fully agree

Yeah, you’re totally correct. There’s a lot of work that requires artists/ animators and programmers to make this happen, but, I agree. This would be awesome!
OR just use no animations and let us still do it. Not like there are any animations while shooting the mg’s on top of the tanks.
