I believe minor suppressive fire would add a tremendous amount of realism to Enlisted. I’m not talking quite as bad as Hell Let Loose but if a bullet ricochets next to you, it should be slightly stunning. Even from a bolt action if it hits inches from you, its nervous wracking and would prevent what is common now, bolt fire miss, then the enemy quickly is able to aim down their sights and hit you. They should still be able to do that but perhaps slight blurred vision and decreased down the sights accuracy.
Same with an MG/SMG, if you’re getting shot at by a fully auto weapon, there is going to be panic and disorientation. I think simulating this by decreasing accuracy and maybe even slight blur would be appropriate. I’m not sure how it would change the game mechanics or play but would be interested to try it. I think if a squad is in a house and a MG is unloading on them, anybody in their right mind would be nervous and slightly disorganized. Increasing the down the sights movement would easily replicate the adrenaline rush you feel and slightly blurred vision would simulate the natural human reaction.
As another different but similar topic/suggestion, MGs firing down the sights while standing don’t make sense currently. If you’re holding an MG up like that, it’s going to be tough as hell and you’ll be shaking. Perhaps increase the “loop” of the MG while standing upright completely making it very difficult to get a bead on somebody while making suppressive fire more realistic seems like a great offset.
I’d be okay with suppression if the concussion effect was really dialed back, and ONLY if that happens. I don’t want any more stupid fucking ugly ass blur effects, it’s mild screen-darkening (vignette?) or nothing. The concussion effect is already retarded as it inhibits both your vision and your aim, it should be one or the other or just the same suppression mechanic as a whole. The TTK in Enlisted is already very fast, but I do see a form of suppression having some place in the game. Keep in mind we already have aim-punch, which is designed to throw off your aim if you happen to be shot.
This bothers the shit out of me. It’s too easy to use LMG’s when standing and aiming down sights, Berlin is a nightmare because of that. Hell, even hip firing should have a slightly increased penalty. In my opinion, the impulse when shooting in ADS (while not mounted) should be higher. Same treatment the semi-auto rifles got.
Suppression is already a thing. There’s flinch as well as the general reaction to being shot at.
Plus bots try to go prone if an MG starts shooting at them.
Suppression shouldn’t involve any “concussion” at all - it should be nothing more than ducking a bit - a temporary withdrawal from combat with no loss of actual ability.
concussion is an effect that is better described as “neutralization”, which involves significantly degrading the combat ability of the target.
Even at 10-12 kg an MG is not THAT heavy that bringing it to your shoulder for a burst or 2 will make you shake at all and it not a particularly difficult task.
holding it there for 2-3-5 minutes probably would be - or trying to run with it there would make it difficult to shoot - but otherwise IMO the difficulty of using it is seriously over-rated.
Suppression is something that is real and effective in combat - but real life combat that is much more complicated and dangerous than the pretty little game we play in the comfort of our computer dungeons!!

Got to say I hate suppression mechanics in every game I’ve every played. This is because they are completely unrealistic. Yes an untrained noob soldier may fidget or lose some accuracy. However the problem is that in the vast major of cases you have people who are perfectly safe behind concert and such being suppressed when they are completely safe and they know this. IRL a soldier that knows he’s safe isn’t going to have a panic attack because some bullets are flying over there head.
The other thing is suppression tells the enemy that they’ve been spotted and are being shot at giving them a chance to enter cover or “dodge”. Most people on a battle field don’t know they are being shot at unless the bullets are literally hitting near them. Which means they aren’t affected by suppression. Unless you can adjust for that, which is basically impossible its better to leave it out completely. It kills immersion and realism. The red hit arrow is bad enough as it is.
While I agree that its gamey its not completely unrealistic. The german field manuals had whole sections dedicated to how to hip fire a MG34 and MG42, while clearing, trenches, rooms, etc. I do think aiming down the sight should cost you stamina that would help offset the issue a bit.
Suppression isn’t a panic attack - it is a withdrawal from a position where you are at least partly exposed to one that is less exposed, and from which it is at least more difficult to shoot back - or most likely not possible at all to do so…
If you are completely concealed from the fire behind a concrete wall then you do not get suppressed at all, by anything. You might get neutralized by indirect fire coming over the wall - but you are already not able to shoot back so there is no suppression possible
If you are looking over or around the concrete wall and a bullet lands nearby and you “pull your head in” so you are not exposed at all any more, then you have been suppressed.
Isn’t it enough if I get panicked when shot at unexpectedly, and my in-game representation aims worse because of my mouse movements? Believe me, it happens.
Seems neither of the people who responded to me…read what I posted. First guy clearly didn’t read either the first post or my clearly failed attempt to quote it.
As to the second response no duh its not a panic attack which is why I hate suppression mechanics because they basically turn rounds fire anyway near you into a panic attack moment by dimming the screen and causing you to not be able to aim worth a shat. Show me a single game with suppression mechanics where sitting behind a concrete wall completely safe still doesn’t cause the suppression effects… I’ve never played one. Hence why any suppression mechanic is dumb and unrealistic. Further suppression mechanics tend to heavily favor people with better lag. Making things if worth.
Au contraire - it is you who didn’t read what we were posting.
I’m not interested in what other games do - we are talking about what suppression is - what you dont’ like in other games is what is called “neutralization” IRL - suppression is jsut what I said it is - getting behind cover without any other ill effect.
We already have “neutralization” in the game - it is the head shaking and blurred vision - we are talking about something different - perhaps it can’t be done - I dont’ know - but what you don’t like is NOT what I am talking about.
lol - yep - not quite panic but sometimes my reaction to somethbing are pretty shit!
I hated when they added this in BF3 & BF4. I already can’t stand how long the disorientating effect lasts when an explosion goes off. If you really think about this mechanic, it’s going to reward the person with the worse aim JUST because they shot (and missed) first. The person with the best aim should imo win, rather than the guy that missed and got a free second shot on you.
Also, I think this would really damage attackers in the Invasion game mode. Sprinting to objectives is already hard enough, if I survive the near misses and reach it I then have to stay safe for like 3-5 seconds in HEAVLY defended enemy territory while not being able to defend myself because my screen is wobbling around. Sounds quite annoying tbh.
I like how the game is more arcade than hardcore, so I might be biased. BUT like I mentioned before, it was in BF3 & BF4 and people hated it in that, so I can’t be alone.
It shouldnt’ be 3-5 seconds in the game - it might be that IRL from a single shot - IMO in game it should be no more than a flinch down that loses your sight picture and does nothing else.
AI soldiers should certainly have kind of “suppresion” effect on them. Something like: find a cover and sit there untill shooting stops instead of trying to shoot at MG (or whatever is shooting at you).
As for players it’s a bit problematic. I would like to see automatic fire affecting them in some way, but for some reason some players (especially snipers) don’t like when they are pinned down and they can’t one shot you in 1s.
Well Josephs, have you ever tried this !
Sounds cool and works for Rambo, but thats it
have you ever fired a MG 42 at 1200-1500 Rpm from your shoulder? The Barrel guard is insanly hot, so how the hell are you going to hold it? A burst or two?
Mate that thing pumps out about 25 rounds per sec!! And there is a thing called recoil…
Yeah rumour says the allies are still struggling to land at omaha beach due to excessive panic because of LMG’s.
It was part of training especiatly for wehrmacht to be able to fire on all positions & on move.
Oh the good ol BF3, Pecheneg spray suppression > no visual recoil but instead random recoil on bullets > only way to counter anyone who missed you first was lucky shot with m26 darts so super fun that I haven touched to single EA game ever since.
How about suppresion that kicks in after some time? So for example you have to be under fire for let’s say 3s to start being suppressed. It doesn’t have logical sense but for the game purpose it may work.
So… Until now I just sucked with my one shot rifles because tenth of the playerbase runs and hipfires while jumping sideways with their LMGs.
Now on top of that I should get some suppression as well? I would much more enjoy that if someone uses a machine gun without bipod will get concussed for a second. And if he hipfires during a jump, get slammed into the wall behind him. I don’t believe these bullets have zero kickback. Or however that force is called in English.
Let’s get rid of all the stupid motions, crazy firing positions before introducing something that puts new players in a worse position than where they are already.
