[Suggestion] Infantry only gamemode

Hello,

  • These are my thoughts -
I am a player who enjoys the infantry combat of this game very much. In my opinion it is the thing that this game does best, with quick time to kill, intuitive movement, good feeling guns, and a fast pace. I find that this game shines when one is playing in varied, close quarters terrain, and is best when there are no tanks camping in the grayzone, holding choke points, and when there is not unrelenting artillery fire or bombing where players are forced to be through the map design. Unfortunately, it does not seem like the developers feel the same way about this game, as their new campaigns, Tunisia and Stalingrad almost solely feature maps with large, open spaces in full view of the defending objective areas with little to no overhead cover. Maybe there are people out there who love being on the receiving end of endless snipers, tanks, and bombers, but I’m not one and have never met one. In my opinion, this is a big chunk of the reason these new campaigns are less enjoyable. I personally miss the lone fighters game mode, it was just more fun for me and the game felt better that way, but there were a number of problems with it.

Personally, I would like to see changes and additions to this game that amplify its best features and tone down its worst. Therefore, my suggestion is to add a new game mode; Infantry only.

-This game mode would not use the squad system, similar to the old lone fighters game mode.
The matches would take place on smaller maps and it would not make sense for squads to be used on them. Also, as such, it would have increased XP gain as players would not achieve similar levels of kills and points in the match.

-It would take place on smaller maps, about 2/3 the size of the current conquest maps.
Something like the scale of Avangard Collective Farm, or this section of wilhelmstrasse.

Or the kroll opera house.

A smaller size of map would mean that even though one cannot quickly switch to a squad member, respawning and reentering the battlefield would not take up the majority of one’s time as the downtime of running to the objective would be lessened.

-Tanks and planes would be unavailable for use in this game mode.
Having no vehicles would take away the frustration of grayzone camping or unstoppable bombing runs. It would also solve the problem of lone fighter players getting squads of 3-6 soldiers by spawning as vehicle crews.

-Most, if not all maps would take place in urban or semi-urban environments.
This would ensure that artillery and mortars would not rule the battlefield, and that each objective would have a number of entries and in general, it would diversify the gameplay.

Let me know what you think.

I believe this game has some of the most unique and enjoyable gun combat out there. I remember how lone fighters was, how every gun felt unique, and fit a niche. The subtle differences between the bolt actions on Moscow really played out in lone fighters in a way they just didn’t in squads. I just wish I could enjoy it again by itself, without all the annoyances the regular game has.

Dunno, about this one as a major update. Maybe some addition to custom games. Only.

Separate game modes was super requested thing in H&G back then, but it turned out in 1vs1 Battles as most just do not play them (tank only aircraft only ect). Infantry only will be just the same here. Total bot annihilation. Because it will not bring more players in one battle, as some still play other campaigns more than others. It will be just as same as it is now.

I have a mod about that.

For now its just 2 Moskow maps and 1 Rzev map, but berlin fully in-house battles are planned (i just need more feedback if its interesting at all, lol).

My 3 mods about 5vs5 infantry only combat:
