Suggestion for planes that hasvea machine gunner at the back(PC only)

I saw a video of Ju 188 A-2 in Enlisted and heard that the machine gunner at the back is not inside the game yet. I have a suggestion about that.

When getting in a plane like Ju 188 A-2, a squad of 2 or more(the number of crew depends on historical facts, of course). When we are in a pilot, AI will shoot the machine guns. And we can switch to machine gunners. When doing this, we can control the plane with the keyboard only(I have no opinion about pad etc) and shoot machine guns with the mouse. In this situation, our perspective will point at the rear of the plane.

Then some might say “When controlling the machine gunner, how can we shoot the machine gun and cannons that shoots forward?” Well, maybe we can use different keys to do that. Or we can shoot ‘forward’ cannons and machine guns only when controlling the pilot.

What do you think about this topic?

Given the hatred toward CAS around this time is tremendous especially on normandy campaign, it is better for CAS cannot shot back any plane who try to take it down from behind. At least for now…

uhmm… you are right. I think german CAS need to get a nerf on other stuff(bombs, etc) first before getting the machine gunner at the back.

Yea, lets continue have Allied ruling the skies of Normandy, while all fairness aside, why fix bugs and make teams fair.

Have yet to see a game where good Axis pilots let you leave the beaches. That being said, most of the time you’re not going to have the best teammates in general (nor should you expect to).

Ever heard of flanking and establish a Rally at a bomber secure place or well hidden in the bush?

nah just CAS in general needs a nerf

That’s quite literally what I do every single game.

Mind the fact I said “good Axist pilots”. Suppose I should also note that it requires their team to mark enemies more often than not as well.

Regardless, Its much easier to stop the beach invasion than to push from the beach. The reasons the Axis lost DDay irl don’t apply in Enlisted.

not really needed since you can remember where their spawn points

Still helps but yeah

I consider myself one of them. Most high kill counter bomb runs are not due to markings but because I can see the enemy from 400m away. So when the field for example is dark earthy brown but something light brown is mingling on it, I know, there I have to drop it for 36 kills.

I’m not even defending allies side. Normandy just have too much bomb there, with someone bring fighter plane chasing CAS, it could reduce the suffering of ground troop. But even figther would need to dump around 3/4 of their ammo to take down one CAS from around 50m meaning pretty long time needed to be at tail of CAS. If CAS can retaliate toward figther, it would be too hard to take down CAS.

I understand that if CAS get a machine gunner at the back right now, they would be OP. That is a problem of balance. There are plenty of ways to change that (increase damage of machine guns and cannons in fighter, make the machine gun at the back of CAS very weak, weaken the damage of bombs and rockets, etc)

What I really wanted to discuss is about controls of planes with machine gunners at the back.
To specify, here are my questions:

  1. Should we let the machine gunner be controlled by AI only?
  2. If we can switch to a machine gunner, how are we going to control the machine gun at the back and the plane at the same time?

What are your opinions? Is there anything I missed about this topic? (except the balance issue)

Lettin AI use mg is not a bad idea as long the ai not act like terminator. For #2 maybe have autopilot feature when returning to base (but it maybe make playing CAS too easy). Or let them just implement feature like wsr thunder bomber mg.

Adding autopilot is a good idea. I only thought of controlling the plane with the keyboard while shooting the defensive machine gun(is this the term people use in War Thunder?) with the mouse.

Maybe we can add the squad command system to planes as well.
ex1) after bombing, order pilot to go to resupply point and switch to gunner to look for enemy planes
ex2) after resupply, order pilot to fly to the yellow ping or capture point (further settings can adjust the height when the autopilot reaches the destination)

I have never played war thunder, so can you elaborate on ‘war thunder bomber mg’?

I watched some videos of War Thunder bombers and their defensive armaments. I think implementing that system is fine.
