Suggested improvements for AI soldiers

  1. Detection
AI Soldiers should have a limited FOV but will constantly be scanning their surroundings, visibly turning to look for targets. They will do this more often when their behavior model is set as “Aggressive”.
When they spot an enemy, they will do as follows:
If at close range they will move backwards a few steps and fire.
If at medium range or indoors they will crouch and fire.
At long range they will do what they do now, going prone and firing.
They will also be much quicker to detect enemies, especially when set to aggressive.
After an enemy breaks line of sight the soldier, if set to passive, will try to path find away from said enemy while avoiding others, but if set to aggressive they will wait about 5 seconds for the enemy to pop out again.
AI’s will not be capable of “seeing” through smoke or bushes.

  2. Following Orders
New options for orders will be “stand by” where your soldiers will take up random positions in cover that aren’t occupied by enemies, and are at a medium distance to you. Ideally this will keep your soldiers in a safe place while having you never be “too far from your squad”.
AI will follow orders when ordered to!
Distance before AI leashes back to the player will be increased.
If ordered to hold in a building, AI soldiers will enter the building. If ordered to hold a trench they will enter the trench. When artillery is fired on a building they will shelter indoors.

  3. General Improvements
If inside a building, AI soldiers will not go prone. They will only go prone if outdoors and at least 10 meters away from a building unless their behavior is set to “stealthy”(a new command) in which case they will always prone/crouch, attempting to avoid enemies.
AI soldiers will seek cover if outdoors, behind trees or terrain, if it is close enough, otherwise they will go prone.

You know how you can rotate direction of placing Engineer built items?

All they need to do is let us Choose AI Lane of fire Directions, plus Standing/Crouching or Prone for each Soldier. The behavior alone is simply not enough.
