I watched that movie, and I gotta say I kinda wish I didnt.
I thought you were going to show it taking hits and going tank vs tank, instead you shot troops with HE, next time fight actual tanks, I wanted to see survivability, armour and shots against lots of tanks.
Does it hold its own again t34s Kv1s my initial guess is no…
It took me more than 10 games to get 1-2 tank kills, StuG III F gets easily killed by infantry, 76mm canons of T34 and KV -1.
The Italian TD on Tunisian maps, which are relatively uncluttered in contrast to other maps, was already struggling in its allocated role vs the M3 Lee.
The dreadful terrain boxes which block shots and soak up HE AOE damage effectively neuter the usefulness of this platform even on open maps. Given the unlimited mobility enjoyed by infantry in this game, without encumbrance and being able to bunny hop out of MG beaten zones and HE effects, any turretless tank is going to struggle.
Without an MG to top it off, its almost a waste of time, being viable only on certain maps in key locations - and that’s largely because Tunisia is relatively flat and open.
Fast forward to the Stug III F trying to do the same in a cluttered city scape, where it can’t bring fire to bare because its zig-zagging the cancerous clutter in the streets, which combined with the limited effect its HE has vs infantry, is just flat out pointless.
I have unlocked this vehicle into the collectibles gallery, but as it stands its unplayable.
The Panzer IV F2 and G have the same 7.5cm L43 gun, with a traversing turret and an MG… There is no point in this vehicle other than esthetics or nostalgia… Yes it can kill a T-34 or KV-1 with a shot, but the RNG in this game is bad so chances are you may not knock it out and the return fire, if your opponent knows where to aim is almost always terminal.
the only plus to the StuG is that it’s small but that doesn’t help much on these maps since they are small for tankers
Soooo, I try to use vehicles that are considered trash, (with exception of the Puma/sdkfz) and I found that the stug III F is great against enemy tanks. It is the only tank that can reliably pen the KV 1 and excels at dealing with tank sniping trash. While yes, the stug suffers when if comes to dealing with infantry due to the lack of an MG. You just need to use it as it was designed, as a counter for tank snipers and the utterly broken kv1 which can take three simultaneous tnt charges to the engine.and if you don’t believe it is possible to survive and kill tanks with the Stug III F then I am sorry, but I managed to destroy two T34’s, 5 T70s, and a KV-1 in a single round with the Stug. I believe it just needs a different style of playing than normal tanks.
Well, I acknowledge that YOU like to challenge yourself, but the question of the thread is whether a typical player should “grind” for it, with the implication being that they’re saving resources and not spending them elsewhere. I reiterate my response - yes the Stug F is quite capable of killing KV-1’s but so are the PzIVF2 and G which are also available in game as a “competitive choice” and as far as bang for buck goes (circling back on the worth to grind point of the thread) - no, the Stug III F is not worth it.
