There’s been a few posts like this, and I want to expand a little on those concepts and put some of my own ideas into it. Here, I’ll be focusing on all tech tree semi autos and sub 450 rpm SMGs. I feel like, since most bolt actions have standardised damage (carbines are 20.5, full power are 22 - 23.7), semi autos should also get standardised damage, and so should SMGs (every SMG that isn’t a thompson has a different damage number to the other, even though they shoot the same cartridge).
- Full-size Semi Autos
I feel like all full size semi autos (SVT, Gewehr, Garand, Hei, Fedorov, Otsu, Type 4, Armaguerra, Johnson) should get 12.7 base damage. The reason for upgrading from an SVT-38 to an SVT-40 in that instance would be nicer recoil and better accuracy.
- Intermediate cartridges
All intermediate cartridge firing guns (M1 Carbine, VG 1-5) should have 8.0 base damage. The VG 1-5 I’ve found is quite apt at killing people, yet the M1 Carbine struggles a bit too much. This would ensure better performance, while still BR II appropriate. It has (arguably) worse sights, worse recoil and half the magazine count. Even with 8.0 base damage, it’s still BR II appropriate.
- Slow firing SMGs
Guns such as the M3 Grease Gun and Thompson series have 6.8 damage. The M3 Grease Gun shoots at 380 - 410 rpm, while the thompson fires at 600 - 800rpm. The FNAB, deals 5.7 damage, and only shoots 400 rpm. So, it shoots slower, deals less damage, and is BR II (same as the M3A1 Grease Gun). Both should be down tiered to BR I, and the FNAB should get a damage buff to 6.0. Another German SMG, the MP35, deals 6.0, so I felt that would be appropriate.
Of course, since a lot of people are complaining about many SMGs being underpowered, they could just buff all SMGs to deal 6.0 damage, but then that brings us back to square one with the slow firing ones. This way, there is a distinct reason to choose the FNAB other than a 40-round magazine.
(And please buff FNAB to 450 rpm, same as the M3/A1 Grease Gun; that’s what they did in real life).
