Let’s face it, when it comes to building MG or HMG nests, most people opt to just use the HMG due to sheer firepower. The standard MG nest used to be used more when you were able to stack sandbag walls and actually make them defendable, but since that was changed, they break far to easily and really aren’t worth in in comparison to the HMG.
Suggestion:
Since you are automatically aiming down the sights from a normal view just by mounting the MG nest, the actual act of “aiming” still doesn’t give much clarity.
I’d like to see the “aim” function allow you to look much closer at the sights, though it wouldn’t function like a scope, rather just allowing more precise aiming at the existing magnification.
I know this seems like a small change, but I think it would be very beneficial to gameplay.
Interesting, I’ll have to try that on the testing range, as it appears that all my troops have the exact same amount of zoom (which isn’t much) on the MG nest.
Though in all fairness, wouldn’t it make sense to allow MG troops this ability as well?
All soldiers can zoom with the MG nest, but compared to normal weapons, they have a X1.5 zoom, while normal guns excluding pistols have a X2.0 zoom
If you want some “extra” zoom while using MG nests you can reduce your FOV
Pretty sure that doesn’t work (properly) on console.
And that right there is my point. An immobile position like this needs something that will actually help to make it more effective, especially as it is harder to acquire than the HMG!
A small change that could make a big difference on its value to the game.
Personally I wouldn’t mind an optical sight for MG nests to make them a good choice vs HMG nests. (Or make them movable.)
I don’t know if US/SU have something similar but I’m sure they made at least one wooden mockup that could be added to the game.
