Stalingrad tanking pointers (part 1)

Since Stalingrad recently released, I’ve been seeing a lot of complaints of people struggling about this or that tanks. I thought it’d be fun to share a bit of pointers about each and every tanks (pass tank included) found in this fun campaign, in the hope of perhaps helping others, and showing that every vehicles have their flaws and strenghts.
So without further ado!

Soviet faction vehicles:

  • The T70.
Pros: tiny, low profile vehicle. Fast firing canon. Very nimble, sloped armour.
Cons: ONLY 2 crewmen at all time, canon does low pen damage, no commander view.

When driving it:
You have a very quick and nimble vehicle, use that to your advantage to gain an advantageous ambush position. You’re not invulnerable even with that sloped armour, your turret is paper made, so do not get cocky and keep using cover until you’re certain to have a good shot on that juicy German tank.
When facing it:
Remember this vehicle only has 2 crewmen in it. If you manage to kill even 1, know that you just immobilized the vehicle (or made it unable to shoot if it moves). It’s turret is exceptionally weak, so aim here if you got a pz3. If you’re lucky and drive a pz4 AND you have a clear line on it’s hull armour (when not angled) shoot center mass to one tap it.

Tip: While it’s true not having a commander view might be a very good incentive to pop your head out of the hatch to look… DON’T. Stalingrad is full of sharpshooters, I’ve no joke took around 30 guys popping their head out from that tank up to date. And remember… only 2 crewmen.

  • The T34.
    Pros:
An icon, a legendary tank by itself. Surprisingly nimble for a medium tank. Amazing canon. 4 crewmen. Sloped hull armour.
    Cons:
Quite slow reload speed of main canon. No commander view.

When driving it:
You have a fearsome vehicle… but you’re not invulnerable. Be wary of pz4. Know your main gun is able to one shot any German tank you see with a well placed center mass shot IF the German tank isn’t angled. When it is, always aim for the the turret, your gun will pierce it like butter. Your reverse speed is amazing, do not shy into going backwards if your shot missed.
When facing it:
A tough cookie. Don’t bother aiming for a hull shot unless in a pz4 facing a not angled one. The turret, again, is where to aim. Remember the t34 reloads more slowly than you do, so aim carefully.

Tip: like the t70, the t34 does not benefit from a commander view… Unlike it however, it has 4 crewmen. Do not shy from risking up your commander head out, it’s his only use. Exept to look out he’s just here to look pretty otherwise.

  • The KV
    Pros:
Also a legendary icon. The definition of a behemoth. Very strong armour, all around. Can whistand tnt charges!!! Same powerful canon as the t34. Cause some sort of fear factor in Axis team just by being here. The Stalingrad Jumbo, only better balanced and less cheesy.
    Cons:
Huge… Stalingrad roads are not only cluttered by debris, there’s also a lot of obstacles tanks cannot go through. Slooooow moving, and slow firing. A big juicy target for planes.

When driving it:
You drive a monster. As long as you dont get surrounded by enemy troops, you’re good. ANGLE your hull! A pz4 CAN pierce your hull if you are perfect 90 degree! Remember you reload very slowly, so if you face a pz4, take your time to aim at it’s turret. Infantry will struggle taking you down with tnt… but a single guy with grb29 will ammo rack you. If you face a poor pz3, just chuckle while it tickles you.
When facing it:
There you go. The big game. The most fearsome prey you trained hard to take on. A challenge. First thing to do is… Not to panick. The KV isn’t invulnerable, unless you are in a pz3. A pz4 can render this beast inoperable with a well placed turret cheek shot, followed by a hull shot provided it’s not angled.

Tip: have fun. You grinded for it, you deserve it. It’s a really funny vehicle to drive.

  • T34E stz

Identical in every way to the regular t34, save for the upgraded hull armour. Turret is still just as vulnerable.

  • Bonus:
    Flamer tank.
A very niche vehicle. It has NO anti tank properties other than blinding. The fire from it does not seem to damage engines, even if molotovs do…
Still not to be overlooked. By far the most dangerous anti infantry vehicle in game, can wreack havoc and clear an impenetrable defense in mere seconds.

This is it for Stalingrad Soviet faction vehicles. As you can see, they are indeed good, but have flaws too. As such I strongly believe they do not deserve nerfs of any kind and should remain as is, they provide a very fun tanking experience.

German vehicles following in another post.

I’ve managed to destroy one T-70 with my Flamingo. The flame from those tanks indeed doesn’t seem to damage the vehicle itself, but after “shooting” the tank 6-8 times the crew caught fire. So it is possible… if the enemy is stuck and can’t hit you.

The T-34 does actually actually have a commander view, you just use the scroll wheel on the gunner instead of switching to the commander. If I remember correctly, this locks the turret up though, so its ill advised to use it.
