Since the merge, it seems even with premium, upgrading squads is even more time-consuming

Less bots to shoot, real enemies that fight back, spam of everything results in less survivability and since score is harder to earn, farming sqauds even more painful than before.
Now that I thibk about it, getting battle hero and battle victory bonus (unless you played underdog) is also harder.
Hmmm…you are level 10 and have not unlocked the XP boost for the squad upgrade?
I would get the XP boost and engineer first.
Then stand rally point in the game and play normally. Then I get one level up in one game.
On the other hand, it is tough to unlock XP boost and engineer…
I don’t think he made those upgrades.
Since merge, squad upgrades are shared across multiple squads so it is possible that he unlocked those with a different squad and somehow the system leveled up the squad.
