A simple-ish change to propose. Currently there are two Squad Upgrade types for Mortars, and IMO one is preferred over the other.
Current Layouts are as follows:
Japan:
- Upgrade Choice 1: Engineer, Medic, Radio Operator
- Upgrade Choice 2: Engineer, Sniper, Radio Operator
- Upgrade Choice 3: AT Gunner, Assaulter
Axis Europe:
- Upgrade Choice 1: Engineer, Medic, Radio Operator
- Upgrade Choice 2: Engineer, Sniper, Radio Operator
- Upgrade Choice 3: AT Gunner, Assaulter
or - Upgrade Choice 1: Engineer, Assaulter, Radio Operator
- Upgrade Choice 2: Engineer, AT Gunner, Radio Operator
- Upgrade Choice 3: Assaulter, Sniper
USA / UKC:
- Upgrade Choice 1: Engineer, Medic, Radio Operator
- Upgrade Choice 2: Engineer, Sniper, Radio Operator
- Upgrade Choice 3: AT Gunner, Assaulter
or - Upgrade Choice 1: Engineer, Assaulter, Radio Operator
- Upgrade Choice 2: Engineer, AT Gunner, Radio Operator

USSR:

These discrepancies makes for some minor annoyances. So, how would I fix them?
Upgrade Choice 1:
- Currently, the difference here is either a Medic or an Assaulter. I suggest just adding the missing option as a 4th option or making a combo option where either a Medic or an Assaulter can be selected.
Upgrade Choice 2: The Current difference here is having either a Sniper or an AT Gunner. I would like to see this simplified to be Engineer, AT Gunner, and Radio Operator, with the Sniper moving to the third slot where missing.
Upgrade Choice 3: Here, it is either an AT Gunner or an Assaulter. As this is only 2 options, simply adding the AT Gunner to the 3rd Choice, making it Sniper, Assaulter, or AT Gunner will suffice.
Alternatively, an overhaul of the Squad Upgrade Selection could be argued, making it so you have Rifleman slots, The Squad specific upgrade slots, and then specialist slots that you upgrade but can use any specialist you like, but limit the specialists to a certain number.
How this could work is you would have by default with 1 squad specific slot and the rifleman slots as they are now. you would then complete upgrades to increase the squad specific and specialist allotments.
For example: you could have mortar squad, default with 1 mortar (Squad Specific) and 4 Riflemen slots
You could then unlock 1 additional squad specific slot and 3 specialist slots. The squad itself would then have caps on types of specialists you could use:
- Up to 2 Engineers
- up to 2 Assaulters
- up to 2 Medics
- up to 2 Snipers
- up to 2 Radio Operators
- up to 1 AT Gunner
- up to
This would give greater control overall to the players, while still allowing to keep squads balanced.
