šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§ Squad Sandbox Customisation: Response to Operation Transparency

@MajorMcDonalds , I appreciated seeing Operation Transparency.

If I may, I want to offer feedback on the Nationalities segment.

The preview of changing solider nationalities on an individual level is most useful to us Veterans who own all the legacy squads.

However I think its just the tip of whats desired/needed for everyone (including Vets)

Squad Customisation Full Sandbox:

I Believe the best way to please as many people as possible with the customization system is to go full Sandbox. If anyone has played Mount and Blade or Bannerlord 2 you will know what I mean.

Basically, the player defines every detail. Names, emlbems, Flags, nationality, Branch…you name it.

The Beauty is, apart from cosmetics/voices, everything else is ā€œClient Sideā€ (so to speak) so it doesnt intrude on anyone elses experience. Beyond the squad cosmetics and voices, No one else sees the squad name, emblem, branch soldier names etc etc.

Players can make Exactly what they want, be it historical, A-historical or nonsensse ā€œwithoutā€ intruding on other players experience/immersion.

Being that its mostly Client side, It also shouldnt be complicated to add. Once the structure is in place, you save yourself ALOT of headeaches with new additions.

Sandbox Customisation includes:

  • Squad Emblems (linked to decals, Extra Emblems rewarded in events and BP)
  • Squad Branch (Define it as whatever you want…ie Army, Marines, Air Force…Furries…)
  • Squad Name (use callsign orders to rename it whatever you want, Historical or otherwise)
  • Squad Nationalty (Cosmetics Pool, Alternative is to just have ALL cosmetics available)

You can Make ANY squad whatever Nation you like: (within the Faction)

NOTE: Nation Attire, Voices and Faces are NOT Client side. So they will show to Everyone. Soldier Customization and Theatre Outfits stay as they are

Mock Up:

AXIS

ALLIES:

Additional Bonuses

  • This opens up more uses for event and BP awards such as Decals, Callsign orders, Customisation orders, and Attire rewards (such as Hats and camoflage).

Let the Players FIx it:

This has the extra bonus of removing the need/criticism of Devs not getting details right (Like British planes in American Squads and vice versa)…The players will have all they need at their fingertips to tailor/fix their own experience.

  • As an addition for this to be seamless, all Planes/Vehicles will need to be available to ALL squads

Combind with the teased customisation on an individual solder level, Most bases should be covered

If I have missed anything yell out. I sort of rushed this out while Operation Transparency is Fresh…

I agree, it’s a good idea, and to be honest he should have done it when the campaigns were merged, but judging by the current productivity of the production team, we’ll probably have to wait a long time, like Tog 2

I’d prefer the ability to run British and Italian squads and have it not be client side, honestly.

I mean… I can do but need a few more British Engineers and would appreciate Italian AT soldiers. New players need more support in this area.

Im not sure I follow, The cosmetics/voices part isnt client side. (I was referring to names and logos)

So for all intensive purposes…your squad Will be British/Italian in the game if you make it so (everyone else will see it too)

example, Checking the Italian box, changes the attire pool to Italian…Combine that with the customisation they are adding to change soldiers voices and faces…You could make ANY squad British/Italian

I misunderstood. Apologies!

Cool idea. Soviets/Japan have really boring looking squad icons (or emblems as you call them) so they could get something more pleasant to the eyes

Would be Nice to see favourite squads at a glance yeah…I hate trying to find the right Soviet squad.

Thank you for your post.

That screenshot with Choose Nationality and the Italian, Romanian, Hungarian and N@zi flags, THAT’s what I want.

You click a box and the whole squad is auto uniformed (and I guess voicelined where possible) to a certain nationality.

There would be a standard uniform and then default winter/Pacific/desert whatever uniforms where appropriate.
I’d argue for nations that didnt fight in a certain theatre, such as Romanians in the desert, just keep their standard European uniform or perhaps in the case of Axis standard German desert uniform.

I’d love to see this expanded to Allies especially for the Commonwealth. I’ve argued over and over how easy it is to create Commonwealth uniforms.
They already have the models for Australian and New Zealand uniforms, they just need to make them freely available.

Canada we just need a patch on standard British uniforms that says CANADA.

British India, same thing, just add a INDIA patch and a turban ā€˜hat’ option and a couple Indian soldier appearances.

Hopefully in the future this could also be applied to Free Polish and Free Czech (patches on regular British uniforms, see it’s really not that difficult DarkFlow…), Free French, Greek Army, Norwegians, Chinese etc.

As for player customisation with specifics. Yeah I guess I’m open to it. The main thing for me is just national headgear/hats since that’s usually how we identify different countries eg Australian slouch hat or French Adrian helmet.

For now I’d say just have precreated default national uniforms (remembering that for Commonwealth for example all the existing alternate options for British uniforms would still apply) and then perhaps in the future we could have the ability to give unit specific patches or whatever.

Yeah.

This is just the squad customization template. As in the Parent Default settings for the squad. (seperate from soldier customisation)

From here you can still go in to the Soldier Customisation screen (how it is currently) and still choose theatre and cosmetics for each individual soldier!

So if you Choose the British Flag as the nation of the Parent Squad, When you go to each soldier, they will have a selection of British Attire…If the Parent Squad is American, they will have the American attire pool (Or any other nation you want)…I Made it sound more complicated than it is

The alternative is just have ALL attire in one pool and players can build as they like.

The only reason I didnt suggest this, is this IS invasive on other players immersion experience…as you could mix match whatever you wanted and other players could see your rediculous mix match running about

@CaptainBeel I did a Commonwealth Mock up for you. added to main post

Agreed.

Haha thanks! Looks good. And yeah like I could name a squad 39th Battalion which fought on the Kokoda Track.

It’s slightly offtopic but personally I’d go even further and additionally allow players to buy as many squads as they want and freely choose their type/class. This way you can make full lineup of UK flamethrowers and another full lineup of Ausie flamethrowers (just an example).

Though from my limited knowledge this may be quite hard to implement.

You should create a post on that. Sure it would get a lot of people’s attention (and a like from me).

I had conisdered making that a part of the suggestion (as in choosing squad type) BUT, not all currently existing squads have the same specialists

i.e Some engineers cant build mg emplacements, some have double AT specialists etc etc

Then there was making all one vehicle lineups and i just left it…

So i thought it would be messy (more work). But yeah, I had thought about it, and do like it as you say

I firmly believe in standardization. I’ll figure out something.

That’s why it’s split into Engineer I and Engineer II squads currently. And it can still carry over. And naturally, the Engineer II will cost more than the Engineer I squads.

The only squad that doesn’t carry over is the Russian MG I. I think it’s the only MG squad without an assaulter or medic in it. However, the squads can be faction related too, as it would still keep some nation identity to have different squad setups.

My only question is:

Will the squads be completely upgraded when we buy them?

Many can argue with me on this, but I think the whole idea of upgrading a squad is kind of pointless. I’ve already grinded 100,000+ for the weapon and squad, all I should need to do is upgrade the classes’ abilities and weapons. We shouldn’t have to build a squad from scratch.

I might actually make a post on that.

The messiness is more for those of us that have all the legacy squads. For example I have 3 AT squads 1s for Allies. One doesn’t have the same specialists as the other two.

Standardization would probably need to happen

You can if you like…or i can just add it here. I already had it ready for the mock up, i just removed it because hadnt thought it through enough

not to be the black sheep, but as explained in another thread:

that is not possible to do.

because how the core game of enlisted works:

so the " easiest " solutions are two:

  • add all clothings to all squads presets ( somewhat similar to the current system, but the " segregation " would have to go )

  • add new separate squads buyable with the missing squad classes ( italians / british flamethrowers, sniper squads, italian riders, apcs, pilot missing types etc )

Oh just suggested something along those lines yesterday (@ErikaKalkbrenner did link the thread above when quoting her response; will quote what I wrote below at the end).

While clearly not easy to do, I still believe that a corresponding change of the squad system is warranted, in order to bring it into line with how the squads are now used on different maps of different ā€œtheatres of warā€ (i.e. to adjust it to reflect those changes in gameplay and squad use on maps + to give players a customization option using all those appearance orders). It just would make a lot more sense IMHO, but I never said (or believed) it would be something that can be done easily

Also since the merger I practicaly play with the same 4 squads, only very seldom switching something in (and doing that only if I feel like leveling them a bit more)… - …but then again I am someone who tries to equip the squads to reflect their historic loadout if possible (I know crazy +lol+).

I think the point is it needs to evolve…Its completely obsolete and needs a rework. Merge left it even further behind.

its not the first time ā€œcoreā€ components have been remade
