Rework how we buy squads (basically Enlisted 3.0)

  1. Why?
    • make buying and upgrading squads more streamlined and intuitive
    • allow players to make more squad presets and thus allow more customization
(For example one lineup of UK asaulters and the other lineup of Aussie assaulters. Or one lineup of BR3 asaulters and the other lineup of BR5 assaulters.)

  1. Buying squads
All current options to buy squads are to be removed. Instead in the shop there is one “Buy Squad” option.

    (Ignore emblem)

Selecting this option allows player to buy a squad and select any possible type/class (if it’s unlocked in the progression).

    (Ignore emblem)

This can be quite easily connected with Myrm1don’s customization suggestion:
🇬🇧 Squad Sandbox Customisation: Response to Operation Transparency

  1. Unlocking squads
Researching tech tree no longer unlocks squads themselves but only the type/class of the squad player is allowed to buy.
    image

  1. Limit of squads
Overall there should be no limit to the number of squads player can buy (unless it’s due to technical reasons of course) and no limit of squad types/classes.

In case some limits are needed, players can increase their squad class limits for reaching the next tier in the tech tree with the final tier being unlimited.

  1. Squad levels (blue tree)
Each squad still needs to be leveled up individually to unlock all specialists and slots for soldiers.
In case squad composition unlocks differ in some way (for example one can unlock medic but not the other), they should be merged so player can choose

  1. Unlocking weapon and soldier upgrades (red and yellow tree)
Those upgrades are removed from the squad progression and instead are tracked globally for each class.
    image image

Players unlock those upgrades by playing with said thing.
    In above examples:

    • AT gunner 1 upgrades are unlocked with exp gained by all AT gunner 1s.
    • G41 upgrades are unlocked with exp gained by all G41s.

  1. Squad tier specific abilities
There are some squads with specific abilities. Like engineer 1 and engineer 2 where only the 2nd one can build MG nests or vehicle squads that have access to only selected vehicles.
    Those limits should be abandoned.

In case some limitations are needed, reaching new Tier in the tech tree should unlock the feature for all squads similarly to point 3

I have no idea if such system is possible to implement. Also I suspect it would require a lot of work and it’s basically Enlisted 3.0 type of thing.

Overall I think such system would allow for far more flexibility both for players and devs. Imo it’s more streamlined and intuitive than the current progression system.

pretty much a big

:+1:

“unfortunately” for Myrm1don suggestion, this one is more feasible as adding new squads is easier than changing the entire way squads works by making them interchangeable.

after all, if you noticed, most squads still don’t have medics… and that’s how they did stuff up until now.

always adding more squads.

only issue is the actual uniform customization.
where also most squads don’t have for example, sniper customization ( green helmets & white pants ) or gray pants. because those have to be added individually to each squad presets campaign pools.

That whole concept was cursed from the get go. In war thunder, once you researched the tank, you didn’t have to then grind for the other half of the tank crew. I made a suggestion recently saying they should remove squad building and just grind for specialist upgrades and weapon upgrades. It would make a lot of people more motivated to use new squads.

Massive QOL issue that needs to be fixed, all cosmetics available on any tech-tree or legacy squad should be available for all squads.

Germany Assaulter IV can’t have desert coats in Tunisia, but Assaulter III can for some reason…

well, i can at least take credit for making them aware.

and i asked james groove if i could talk about it, and he said yes.

so, they are aware.

matter of fact, james tasked me to come up with a list of filling all items that were available to buy, are missing as long one of the components was present.

for example, the gerat cosmetic squad, according to developers them selves and the Ex community manager james groove, they were supposed to give the tunic in the base customization.

or any other pieces of a set that are present ( pants / helmet / tunic ) the missing pieces were supposed to be included.

and here is a " known " list:

problem is… it’s outdated. ( it was made before the announcement of Rzhev. in which i didn’t know Rzhev was integrated with stalingrad )
and i was refrained from covering premium units, and / or add any further from the last time i made that list ( around last year in june )

So, they’re aware, got a list of even the IDs of the items and squads missing them… yet they’ve done nothing with it so far?

Current problems I see with squads:

  1. It’s often confusing for new players that some weapons come with squads and some don’t

  2. Legacy players have gazillion squads for Germany/US/USSR and just a few for Japan making it impossible to equally play 3.planes / 3 tanks/ 3 flamethrowers, etc and preventing quick BR loadout switching for Japan

  3. Specific weapons requiring gameplay with specific squads to be allowed to be upgraded

  4. Specific soldier classes requiring gameplay with specific squads to be allowed to be upgraded

  5. Vehicle squads have weird vehicles distribution e.g. T-28E always in the same squad with IS-2 which prevents quick BR loadout switching

  6. Britain and Italy missing (lots of essential) squad types

  7. Certain legacy vehicle squads locking 1 vehicle to themselves (I have Pz IV H/Stuka R2 impossible to be deselected in their squads as they are the only vehicles, so they are also unavailable for other squads) – not that big a deal but e.g. I can’t use my Pz IV H with an already upgraded crew from another squad

well,

to be fair to them,

they did added the

  • gray sniper pants from Ex Berlin customization to most TT german squad,
  • NCO summer hat of the soviets from the premium APC squad to ALL soviet squads,
  • frog camouflage pants from the US to most pacific presets TT squads.
  • airborne helmet to all japanese squads
  • 1 denison paratrooper jacket to all british squads

and… i think that’s about it.

not great, but not bad either.
after all, the person is only one that has to copy and paste ( to my understanding ) the same item across several squad in each present.

so… technically having to paste the same item across 120+ presets of different squads despite being the same.

Sounds like fixing everything would be tedious, but certainly something that could be done in a day per faction, if it really is just copy-pasting the same lines of squads for every item once per campaign it should appear in?

Either way, your suggestion @VoyoMayPL is very similar to a previous one of mine, so of course I support it.

So take something from pre-merg vet players. Ok how about unlimited squad slots use as many squads as you want in battle. Para squad, assaulter, sniper, mg, radio, attacker, fighter, tank, apc, spaa ect.

Nobody is taking anything away… simply making it accessible to the majority.

Nobody cares about this elitist mindset when 25% of those squads are unique ones like the 101st airborne.

Because squads like that should only be held by the vets? Hell no.

You have your leaderboard nickname decorators, MP717s and soviet thompson to still flex and feel like you’re above the average player.

Classic move though… feel like you’re being attacked and make a drastic argument.

Royal Tank Regiment too…

I’d love to have that squad just because of the history…

Wow read the first six words and ignore the rest, pull out my credit card I earned that. Play the game for months or years that belongs to everyone. I have an idea pay for it with gold that seems to be the only way to buy and not rent something.

You went on to make a strawman argument which i also acknowledged. Lol.

Ok explain how it is a straw man argument, new players get something what do vets get. Payers already get something and would also benefit from it. How have I misrepresented your argument.

To be fair you have somewhat of a point here but you are acting like YOU can’t do this already

All this does is give the ability die hard vets have to everyone… i totally understand why you wouldn’t want that but the reality of it is that the pre merge progression sucked, was unbalanced and literally made me not play for that reason, meanwhile i play this game every day now as i can choose what i want… get “balanced” matches and such.

That’s my point I was there I unlocked them just like a payer I earned them. If you are going to give something to someone I want the ability to earn something useful. You would never ask for vet to be able to buy premium squads with silver. I just don’t want to be treated as a second class citizen to payer and new players. So just sell the for gold like squad slots, or both squads and slots for silver.

You have four, four squads between rifleman, sniper, assaulter, medic, at, mg, guerrilla, apc. Tank. Spaa, flamers. Attackers, fighters. Ect. Yes and I played unlocked the squads that’s my point. You would not expect to miss an event then play later to get the reward.
