[Squad] Lots of AI controlled squads in group games?

Recently, I’ve noticed that whenever I pair up with 1 or 2 mates for the Squad gamemode, there seems to be a LOT of bots on both sides (i.e. fully AI controlled squads).
I know the game does not tell you if you’re playing with/against bots, but it’s clear that there is usually at most just 1 or 2 other real players in the game. You can easily tell as there is no artillery, no vehicles/planes, no markers, no chat, whole squads just camping the point.
However, when I join a Squad game solo all seems to be fine. At least I end up in a decently filled server.
Has anyone else experienced this? And more importantly, why is there a difference and how to fix it?

I could think of a few possible explanations:

  • There is a different matchmaking queue for group games which is a lot less populated. Imo this would be a really odd choice to make for a MMO, but it could explain the issue.
  • The matchmaking system takes into account if you desert a lot (my mate only wants to play allies and will leave the game if we get the axis side)
  • There is a -new- different matchmaking queue for players who did not complete the tutorial (my mates did not do the tutorial as I told them it doesn’t teach you anything).

Another thing I noticed is that whenever I team up, we only get one of two maps on the Normandy campaign. It’s either D-Day or Le Bre.
To be clear, the problem arose very recent. A few weeks back all was fine.

Anyway, I hope you can shed your lights on this issue and maybe help us resolve it.
I don’t think you can really call this a bug, but I would really like to solve this problem as the matches are exceptionally boring and easy atm.

This is false. We’re still up against real players, its just the matchmaking if they failed to find players they will put up bots

You can simply don’t use option “Join any team” when you play together - by deserting and not coming back you become part of the problem. Your place has to be taken by AI controlled squads.

I hope it’s a feature, but tonight I got put in a game with two four man squads, it was just me and one other player on axis side, the rest bots.

Needless to say it wasn’t very fun.

if you desert at the beginning of the game it seems normal to me that it gets full of bots you tell your friends that they ruin the game at all

I don’t see why is that a must. Another [:heavy_check_mark:] ok to join running matches and I could be presented with the option to turn the tides perhaps in a seemingly lost battle (not less than half of the points remaining or similar). In this case with some bonus XP maybe.

That could work, but for now there is no such thing. And we must take into consideration that not everyone would like to use that option. And if there is no player joining it is better to replace leaving players with bots than leaving their slots empty. They are better than nothing and at least try to play the objective unlike many players.

How do you tell they’re bots? I tried the scoreboard and seeing if complain is there and it always is, they appear to be just bad players for the most part.

What do bots do that’s different? I’ve seen some bad players, putting rally points up in attics where bots can’t get out of, never going into an objective and setting up around it (friendly side and just continuously allowing them to fortify), setting up bases away from the battle, etc.

If bots are bad, what exactly do they do that you can tell, and is different then your typical bad player?

I think the idea comes from a lot of matches being unbelievably bad/one sided and your teammates being absolute zombies. It’s basically known at this point that matches get filled with bots, and the AI in this game is some of the worst I’ve seen in the last decade, so you combine those two together and there you have a theory to why many matches can be such an easy steamroll and teams can be so unbelievably bad and appear to lack basic common sense.

To be clear, the problem arose very recent. A few weeks back all was fine.

I’ve noticed something like this, however it’s been like this since more than a few weeks back.

Thanks for responses!

I never had that option when I played with friends. I did some digging and apparently the option is not available when someone in the party did not yet do the tutorial. I thought it just was an option for solo play. Anyway, I will force my mate to do it and hopefully it will also fix the problem with the bot filled games.

Bots will always go straight to the point. Their pathfinding is pretty obvious, especially when you’ve captured a point and they retreat in rows to the next defensive position.
Also, they don’t have any advanced units, they don’t build any structures and will not claim tanks/planes. And for your own team, bots will never spawn on a rally point.

To throw more fuel on the fire. Was playing the Moscow campaign just then as the “Allies”, 2 or 3 games in a row my team seemed completely occupied by bots save for maybe 1 or 2 people. 1 match almost all of the team seemed to have congregated somewhere near the spawn while there was hardly anyone to be seen (both team and enemies) at any of the points. Complete camp fest, nobody pushing the point aside from the enemy who caught them all not long after it started. The last game once again the enemy grabs all the points at the start, I place down a spawn in a good location, rarely gets spawned on and maybe once in a blue moon did somebody try capping a point - very quiet battle.
