Squad Formations

Squads for the most part stand on line when in combat, providing the maximum amount of firepower while also presenting themselves as a grand target.

You need the ability to switch on line to a wedge or column formation so that the AI can be better protected when you aren’t using them. For example, a lot of the path finding will leave your squad hanging outside while you clear a building rending them exposed to enemy fire. A column formation with you leading and your squad in tow could easily file into the building one after another because of the line formation.

A wedge formation would protect your squad behind a hill while you peek over to take a shot is another example.

More control would result in better gameplay in my opinion.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. See you guys on the battlefield!

The ai’s should move in and out of formations depending on the environment. Formations in open areas would be appropriate, but inside buildings they should hide in corners, behind walls/doors, lay prone on the floor, basically stay put.

i’d be happy with just fixing their behavior; dont fire but just aim at the player and their entire squad locks onto you from across the map, they constantly run out of trenches and buildings into enemy fire when told to stay put, and the entire squad can be wiped before firing more than a collective 2 shots, and they insist on sprinting when youre crawling, or run around the corner when you try to creep it, its kinda frustrating and i often end up leaving them on a second floor or cheesing their AI into an attic or bunker with sandbags blocking the door while i do my own thing.

Wanted to start a topic on this, but found this thread.

Yes, we need formation options such as column, line, wedge, echelon left/right.

All of these would be easy to implement as sub-wheels of the spacing options, e.g. close/standard/wide → [formation option wheel].
