In the upcoming update, all campaign factions will be merged into their respective nations. This will make Germany a massive faction because of its presence on 5 out of 6 campaigns. Putting aside the bloat from the massive amount of nearly identical weapons from every campaign, the amount of maps that will require axis players will be huge. Speaking from experience, I feel like most people choose a theatre of war they have an interest in, like Normandy or the Eastern front and may not like instead being forced on playing Tunisia maps for example.
Therefore a I suggest splitting Germany into two factions, one Western one focused on fighting the allies in Normandy, Africa and (probably) in the Battle of the bulge. The other one would, of course, be the Eastern armies fighting the soviets.
Not only would this allow Axis players to play the maps they enjoy, it would also add more flavour to the game by allowing the developers to add more historically accurate vehicles, weapons and uniforms to their respective faction like the jagdtiger to Western front and the elephant/ferdinand to the Eastern front. (yes i took inspiration from coh2).
As it stands now, for a new player choosing a faction post-merge there will be little reason, aside from personal preference, to choose anything but Germany. They will by far have the most content and will be present on most maps. By splitting Germany into two, content will be split more equal between the post-merge factions/nations with the Soviets and Eastern Front Germans both being on 3/6 maps, Western Front Germans and the allies on 2/6 maps (the pacific is its own can of worms).
I think this would fairly easy to implement as well. Instead of merging all equipment from all campaigns into one, massive, bloated Germany, transfer all progress from the Normandy and Tunisia campaigns into “West-Germany” and the progress from Moscow, Stalingrad and Berlin to “East-Germany”.
This will still make the merge an upgrade from the current system by reducing the amount of German campaigns to grind from 6 to 2 but it will allow us to keep some of the flavour and immersion that make each campaign feel special and enlisted the game that it is.
I understand why Germany would need something like this as the Soviets and Americans can already choose their respective theaters post merge with stuff like Soviets only get Eastern Front maps. I’m not sure how things going to be once Americans starting to see Germans using captured PPSh and other weapons that are sent to the Eastern Front more like Mkb 42(H) or Volkssturm weapons seen more in Berlin than the West.
Even Japan have their own respective theater unless the devs make them face the Soviets one day.
each nation already will be split in BR levels. your proposal is the same as giving single BR intervals their own names and making everything more complicated.
this is very true for me, but also which ones are more fun to play and feel more immersive
this new system will likely bring more undesired maps into the queue which players will have to quit matches to skip over
and if a player wants to focus on a specific Theatre, the player has no other choice than to quit the match
thus some players might end up quitting a lot more matches because of this reason
But it won’t be an exclusive Issue for Germany
The idea to have an early/mid/late war era with seasonal Campaigns/Theatres would have been a superior idea to this nonsense they are going ahead with currently
Which could also serve as a post-war equipment split of West Germany and East Germany in a way, when cold war will be implemented…
However, I think it’s already a bit late for this, unless some serious issues with equipment imbalance appears after the merge, which makes devs rethink this.
the idea itself is not bad however this could lead to the same problems as we have now:
people would only play one German faction, either the eastern or the western one.
Its highly likely that this would create a very OP Germany and a very weak Germany, one steamrolling and the other getting stomped.
