guys as the title say searching the forum i found some people complaining on how D-Day is a one sided map and now i would like to say ma opinion…before complaining about D-Day why dont you speak about the other maps? The first two/three capture points of Ruins of Vraux are completely impossible to defend, expecially the first point where the enemy can spam artillery and completely wipe out entire team cause its completely open and some people take time to load…airfield is unbalanced too, the attacker can easily encircle all points and wipe out the defenders…now for Le Bre exist the version with the germans defending so the only assault map where germany was the attacking team is more rare to find than before…returning to D-Day its not this difficult to win as an attacker by the way…considering most of the time german players are nobrain its quite possible to win, especially after the first point where you can easily seize the hills and massacre the defender on the lower ground. So what do you think guys?
i suppose you are speaking only for normandy, which it’s understandable.
as a german main from this version,
and somewhat, experienced players over the course of the life time of this game, maps are usually meant to be asymetrical balance depending who is defending and who is attacking.
a great example that you mentioned, is Ruins Of Vaux,
this map for the first threee points are meant to be far from germans spawns because when the germans get well entranched after the church, it gets really hard for them.
that’s where most of the time if americans do not lay down rally points at the church or the house at the end of the city, they will most likely lose. because germans can be well entranched.
as such, personally speaking, maps are very detailed in terms of flanking and covers. that’s why players are supposed to change tides of the battle.
which past those three points, it gets more open and perhaps more tied up.
airfield is an example of where cooperation is a must have for the germans.
you need tanks covering the ““highway”” ( don’t know how it’s called ) and the other smaller road. snipers to cover flanks, and others squad to stay inside hangars.
if i have to be honest, in 10 times i played arifield, i might have lost only twice.
but it gets really harder for the americans to get pass the bunker. germans spawn are next to that bunker… sure, planes can do all the work, but again.
all of this, just to say that maps are designed to favor in some part the attackers, and others ,the defenders. mostly because of the flow.
the same can’t be said for berlin. which, i wouldn’t say it’s one sided, but it gets harder for the germans to defend there.
mind that all of this are my personal opinion though.
agreed.
one thing that people overlook is that after the first point, it’s a steamroll for the americans once they get in the hills. let alone rally points.
and about le bre exist, i think this one is a bit special, because it’s really wide and open.
the only map that i don’t like, it was the never one where there’s a windmill next to the american spawns ( Point A ), than there are the trenches ( near german spawn, Point C ) and the meatgrind at B ( the house in the middle of the little city ). forgot the name as it’s so bad for both sides…
after that, i think they really nailed the details and the gameplay possibility in each map. on some of them i have neutral feelings, but i never had the feelings of, " yeah, this is impossible. just rework it or remove it ".
but as i said, this is just my opionion.
cheers.
yes i forgot to mention i was speaking for the normandy campaign as i too main germany…still i dont know…maybe its my bad luck and i find bad teammates/strong enemies too often but maps like ruins of vraux and the new airfield are impossible to win…
oh and speaking about “details”, i like the detail they put on D-Day where 60% of the useful MG for germany are hindered by thick bushes and czech edgehog and how they put some mg that are useful only for the atacking side XD
that is because of two reasons.
to prevent people from spawn killing with those mgs ( since it can be done ) and the other, it’s to protect the machinegunners from snipers that are sitting in their spawn.
usable for " ambush " clueless attackers.

Nice summary. I almost solely played Normandy both sides (more US as of late) and I completely agree with everything you said tbh.
D-Day can be annoying right at the start as Allies, if you’re in a low level team with no one making spawns or able to use artillery.
But there are plenty of options for how to advance. The map is big enough that the Axis can’t watch all of it.
Also they are very generous with providing tickets once you take a point.
There have been matches in which we’re still stuck on the beach and only have about 350 tickets left, and I assume it’s a totally lost cause, but then once one point is taken things change and somehow Allies end up winning.
At least with D-Day by the time you’re at the last point both teams have loads of points and the win feels really earned, or if you lose you don’t mind because it’s usually very close by the end.
However Air Field feels like they took the worst parts of D-Day and put them in a really basic map.
Like you say a good Axis team can basically trap the Allies in the hanger and slaughter them as they try and move out.
To make it even more grim to experience, if the Allies only have M5А1s and the Axis have higher level tanks they can easily destroy Allied armour before they can do anything.
I really hope they do a rework on Air Field, it really needs it. It feels like a very basic uninteresting map, which makes being virtually spawn camped on it all the more boring and annoying.
