the gunshot sounds inside larger buildings should be amplified, the shots should be more echoey, raw, loud and almost deafening, something you would expect while combatting in what is basically a imperfect echo chamber.
the grenades should be similar to gunshots, echoey, loud and almost deafening, with the addition of kicking up the dust after explosion and creating a dust cloud for a very short period of time.
if the sounds get any louder it will be too annoying and force players to lower overall volume, which will make the game worse. many soldiers returned with serious ear damage due to that and nowadays no soldiers fires a weapon without ear protection if he can.
Funny thing is, the gun sounds in Enlisted seemingly have been recorded inspecific environments and you can hear it from the sounds in the gunshot sound sample - for example:
- Springfield M1903A1 sounds like it has been recorded in some sort of echo-reflecting tall grass or something, it does this loud “PFTSSSHH”
- Kar98k currently sounds like it shoots in an anti-echo chamber - the sound is short, much stronger on the strong bass tone than on any environment echo, but
- Kar98k Kriegsmodell - the stock one from Berlin - has a massive in-house-sounding echo, and it can be heard regardless of whether you are shooting in game inside a building or not.
Of course there is a separate echo added for the distant shots, but the environment present during the shot sound recording has much influence on how each gun in Enlisted sounds, and it is so weird sometimes. There should be a set of sounds recorded for each gun - for wooden interiors, concrete interiors, forest and open air - and they should change in respect to the environment you are shooting in.
I don’t need a real concussion.
I honestly don’t care about the sounds I just want a functioning game where bipods work and AI’s are not confused about how to walk or defend themselves.
i think the sounds of the guns should be similar if they use the same cartridge, for example the kar98k variants, they all use the same 8x57 mauser cartridge, they should have a similar sound, but to break the sameyness they should have a duller, shorter or longer sound in order to make them noticably different, kind of like how the old gewehr 41 sound can be compared to current gewehr 43 sound, they’re similar but still noticably different:
gewehr 41
gewehr 43
another example which is overlooked is gerat 03, its sound is still different from gewehr 41/43 but only slightly
however the sound similarity will just walk away when it comes to firing the same cartridge but in full auto, instead of the normal sound, we should be hearing a audible TRRT-TRRT-TRRRT noise, which is what people have requested, and some gun sounds such as mg42 have just gotten worse, i mean i prefer its old sound:
a great example of how mg42 should really sound:
the sound changes count for these aswell:
MG13/DM, MG30, MG34, PT34, MG15, FG42
all of these could have a better sound, something more suitable for them
man, people here always assume the worst care scenario, i didnt mean that what u said, i meant that the sounds should vary more, like this ambience does
More details mean better games
But I’m worried that game developers don’t have the energy to improve it.
From my experience in amateur sound design and sound recording in the field, the Springfield rifle sounds like it’s firing blank ammunition. It doesn’t have that explosive thump other weapons have it just sounds like a rapid gas ignition.
