Some may find the humble rifleman squad to be inferior to other, more specalist heavy squads, but I say bah! My favorite tunisia axis squad is the trooper 2s, with 6 rifle grenaders, an at gunner, an engi, and a mg gunner. Everyone but the mg has a large grenade pouch, which gives me 25 grenades + 18 from rifles for a total of 43 grenades, in my one squad. Sure I don’t have as many fancy guns, but if I want to I can call in an “Artillery strike” indoors, and it is glorious.
Rifleman squad is great for holding, capping objectives whatever config you chose. As for grenades, sounds like you got a mini mortar squad going there!
only thing about rifle squads is the radio dosent get smoke
I mean, that is true of all squads that aren’t a dedicated radio squad, same as how only engineer squad engineers can build static weapons, so its not really a fault of the rifle squad compared to say the mg gunner or assaulter squads.
fair point. ive been unable to use my rifle squad to its fullest partly since i don’t have the specialist troops i need to fill it out, but its good to hear not everyone wants full auto everything. also i rly like how in tunisia most ppl have BA and the full autos and semi autos arent as powerful as in other campaigns
1 Explosion pack and your whole Trooper squad 43 grenades are defused.
Large squads attracts nades and are more vulnerable to tanks, planes and artillery strikes.
Focus on quality not on quantity.
Shorter Squads are actually better practically, more easy to hide AI inside houses
Rifleman squad are more usefull in some campaign thab the other.
Berlin Axis usefull:because of the good FG42.
Berlin Allied useless: PSSH or LMG are the thing to go, not AVS.
Tunisia: semi auto squads are good because the weapon are shitier than usual.
A lot of the Tunisia points are either in large buildings with a bunch of smaller windows, or in open areas surrounded by walls, and the high fire rate options are quite a bit weaker. It is pretty difficult for whoever is in the point at the time to actually get all the troopers before I can get a bunch of grenades back in at them, and if they do a short charge throw, I can, you know, throw it back, and often do. Also, don’t underestimate the effectiveness of rifle grenades in Tunisia. They are pretty effective weapons for dealing with people trying to hide in or near windows or doorways, as they tend to do.
And seriously, have you played with 9 man squads much? There are so many soldiers they naturally end up covering a fairly wide area, so where a 5 or 7 man squad gets totally wiped, a 9 man usually has at least one or two guys left over, which means I can still accomplish whatever it is I am trying to do. In my experience the larger numbers of bots really do last meaningfully longer when I rush a point with them, which is how I use my bots because quantity in the point is better than quality hiding in a building.
I’m not going to say its the best thing ever, but at least in Tunisia, it definitely works well enough to hold up against other options.
if they only hide where you want them to hide that is. They are usually a pain in the arse and hide outside instead and give away their position cause they cant sit still where you told them to be ^^ Most annoying part is when they turn up and blocks you while firing. Its both funny and really annoying at the same time
AVT 40 isnt useless but alot of people prefer PPSH squads while for the Germans the FG42 II is essentially the best “assault” squad until the StG44 comes in. I use PPsH squads while the other soldiers in that squad use the AVT
Very true. Their uncanny ability to give away your position by sleepwalking and crawling all over your spot is legendary.
