You need to unlock whole tier to start new unlock at higher tier in new system.
Altought it is flawed, campaign system at least gives a chance to unlock different weapons earlier.
If you just play moscow, semi autos are at the end of the campaign but you can achieve them earlier at berlin and stalingrad. After the merge, things will be much more grindier.
Scenario:
Our casual murican gamer (%90 percent teenager or kid) discovers enlisted and starts to play.
He/she recently saw saving private ryan and so very enthusiatically starts this new game.
Want to play with iconic weapons like m1 garand or thompson .
She/he is an average gen z with average 5 seconds attention span.
There are tons of weird and unique stuff not very well known weapons but who cares ?
Lets roleplay as gi and kill bunch of krauts.
But oopsie, garand is at high tier and there is no way to grind within 1 week to reach it anyway in a gaijin game. So she/he just drops out and never returns, straight up and granted.
"But warthunder does the same you cant reach tiger easily " etc…
Difference is; wt has no real competitor menawhile ww2 fps’ are one of the most over f…ng saturated games in the market.
Will the merge really increase and create healthy playerbase ?

Yes, those games are so horrible that they convinced investors that wwii is no longer a popular topic in the gaming industry.

The problem is this game is a F2P grinding game. The scenario you mentioned is common in such type of game. For example, WT, WOT, WOWS, WOWP, HNG.
If you want to play a F2P game you should have expected such situation.
Much worse for Eastern Front with Red Orchestra 2 being dead and not having a proper successor as they went for Vietnam with Rising Storm 2 which also very low population.
Hell Let Loose I heard only had 2 Eastern Front maps that don’t appear much in rotation while others are focused on the Western Front only.

Older WWII games that were saturated back in the day were already dated today.
Pretty much we are suffering the same problem as War Thunder with lack of alternatives.
