It makes no sense why a unit who fought in Normandy would also be fighting against the Japanese in the Pacific. I think we should go back to separate units for separate campaigns. The developers put so much time in making everything realistic so why does the immersion have to be ruined by wrong soldiers fighting in wrong battlefields.
I agree with your complaint but not your solution.
I believe the fix is simple:
Get rid of ārealā or āaccurateā units and replace them with generic classes which players can choose the nationality of.
For example instead of The Big Red One, itās just Rifleman 1 squad which can be British, American, Australian, whatever.
This would also allow for more nations to be added, within existing trees.
For example Hungarian uniforms in Axis and the various Commonwealth countries uniforms in Western Allies.
it would be used as an exploit to lock a single campaign/battle/map by choosing units that only fought in one campaign you would be locked to that campaign. which would be a bug not a feature campaigns are dead, accept it and stop trying for work arounds. unless you want squads limited to one campaign to just be removed.
Perhaps uniforms should change where necessary?
Eg. Americans in Burma automatically change to British uniforms.
French Resistance in Tunisia get either desert French Army uniforms OR USA/British uniforms.
According to incomplete statistics, 90% of community players agree to sacrifice authenticity for ābalanceā before merge, so you are late.
The āstatisticsā was completely fabricated by me, but it does represent the views of most people at that time.
yes please i want both of my allied AT teams to be british so i can larp as british airborne, or both of them to be american so i can larp as american airborne
I would love this as well, for Normandy and Tunisia you can put US army or British army uniform (but you cannot mix between for example US headgear with UK uniform and you must equip your entire squad with one nationality, no mixing between US and UK troops in one squad). For pacific you can put US Marine Corps, US army, or Commonwealth forces (you cannot mix as well). For Bulge as thereās only Americans in this battle you are forced to buy from US cosmetics preset. We can forgo going after historical unit altogether.
Dev would also donāt have to ācreateā a new faction from scratch as all they need to do is to create cosmetic sets for each campaign according what faction fought there and add a new foldered weapon/vehicles in the TT.
However there need to be a MASSIVE reduction of cosmetic cost or some kind of overhaul
This is a good idea. Im sure people agree that we shouldnt āmix n matchā.
With your points I will say that a separate USA and UK-Commonwealth tree would be the ideal imo as for example the USA could be queued alone against Germany for Bulge, while UK-Commonwealth could be queued with France (but not USA) for Battle for France.
For instances where the two forces fought together, surprise, theyd be queued together.
Pacific would be good as Australians/New Zealanders being queued either to New Guinea alone VS Japanese, or with USA for the landings at Lae for example.
I also wholeheartedly agree with reducing cosmetic cost. Maybe appearance and names should just be silver. Myself and my squadmate have lots of spare silver and little to do with it.
Still waiting for slouch hats/digger hats for my Australian guerillas⦠(as well as other squads because I could give my āBritishā squads slouch hats and BAM theyāre Australian. Same applies for most of the Commonwealth, just change the headgear. Its really not that hard, I dont understand why DF wont do it.
i get your sentiment but Iām not really keen on separate queue based on different uniform, what i meant was a ātech treeā for the uniform itself so people canāt wear m1 helmets with british para uniform or something like that.
however with the limitations of what faction cosmetics can be used in certain campaigns i think it will be enough to somewhat reintroduce realism to the fold, after all we wont be seeing french uniforms in pacific because they are limited to the USMC, USA, and Commonwealth forces that fought there.
i think what we ought to aim here is the āfolderingā of battles in the campaign. for example 1940s france can be added to the normandy campaign BUT with it being foldered you can actually only choose uniforms based on who fought there on the specific battle(s), i think this can create some semblance of campaign system without disturbing the matchmaking
I fully agree
