So, if the T34 STZ is allowed to have 60mm of sloped armor at BR3, why doesn't the Jagdpanzer IV L48 which also has 60mm of armor only fit into BR4?

I think this is a no brainer, its a SPG and has its own performance issues as such, it should be BR3.

Just give it a drivers hatch weakspot and call it a day. Playing with the same armor protection for all German vehicles until you reach BR4 is kinda annoying. Some viable alternative to 50mm armor Panzer IV would be appreciated.

This needs to move down to BR 3 and the StuG needs to move to BR 2.

Yes! The stug 3f can be frontally penned by 37 and 45 mm cannons. It has no use in t3 if even t1 tanks can kill it with ease

Low BR germany is not allowed to have any armor at all.
The first tank that gets none paper armor is in BR 4.
Only the allies are allowed to have that.

Kinda sad that all but 2 USSR tanks ingame (T60 and Flame tank) can easiely front pen every low br tank frontaly.
But on the axis side all but a few tanks struggle to do the same with the allied tanks.

Because the T-34 turret is still very weak with only 45 mm of armor that most German low BR tank can penetrate while there are no allies (soviet, US, Uk) tanks at BR1-3 that can pen the Jagdpanzer 4.

Sure Jagdpanzer is not worth at BR4, but that does not mean that it can be allowed to bully Low BR tank either.

With Better BR, I might see the Jpz 4 lowered, but not if it can see low BR as of right now

Ok just played around with the WT protection simulations and there would litterly be no tank in low BR that could deal with the armor of the JP4.
All the best performing tanks in low BR could do is kill the transmission.

KV 1 is way worse than JP. And the better KV1 is BR4.

I would disagree because of the regular SPGs are inferior argument, I have to say though, the Jagdpanzer IV L48 MG is actually pretty nice, unlike its L70 variant that has for some reason almost no ammo.

L70 is definitely BR5 vehicle. And Panthers should be as well.
On other hand, all tigers 1 should be BR4.

True, damage model of that turret is pure aids though, its like only 10% of the frontal armor hix box can be reliably dealt with, gun mantle absorbs alot of damage, more a damage model argument than a balance argumet.

You can go through KV-1 front armor using german BR2 tanks like Puma, Pz III M/N/J1, there is just no allied tank at BR1-3 that can do the same with Jagdpanzer IV front armor. Yes KV-1 is strong and I dislike seeing that thing in low BR games, but Jpz IV would be even worse. I would rather see the BR of the KV-1 being uped than he Jpz going to BR3.

KV1 is useless at BR 4 as seen with the other KV 1 in BR 4.

One is a tank destroyer and the other is a heavy tank. TDs are way more disadvantaged than regular tanks.

Only if the KV does not angle at all and the KV can angle very agressively with 75mm side
armor. If angled properly your hull armor can get close to 120mm raw thickness ontop of reducing the penetration of enemy shells due to the angle.

Maybe the better solution then is to “uparmor” the Jagdpanzer IV to 80mm of armor ( which is exactly how much armor it should have to begin with, would then “fit” into BR4.

I don’t see why the Jagdpanzer IV with the short gun has only 60mm of armor while the version with the Panther gun has 80mm of armor, pretty sure thats just some weird warthunder balancing.

I have to admit, this is a very good point, I have spent last year non stop ranting about how the Panther was performing increadibly bad and totally historically inaccurate.

Nowadays the Panther deals with Pershing and even IS 2 tank fairly well, it absolutely should be a BR5 tank. You know, I base my balance arguments for the Jagdpanzer pretty much on performance of comparable tanks at the same BR.

Jagdpanzer IV L70 is comparable to Panthers performance, if both would sit in BR5, i actually would have to agree that it would make alot of sense. Especially when the Jagdpanzer IV(A) would still sit in BR4 together with the then buffed Jagdpanzer IV L48.

No tank destroyer with limited turret traverse and lack of MGs should sit at BR 4. Unless it’s front armour is super thick.
