So Engineer Machine Gun Emplacements Are a Little Broken

Had an Omer North Invasion as Defender (Allied). The starting CP’s one of the long barracks buildings, right? I take my MG squad with an engineer, do some quick forts… ammo box, sandbag the door, and put an MG nest behind that. Man it just as the jerries start pouring through.

The dudes. Oh dear dog, the dudes that just came running around the building ahead, only to get mowed down. I had 2, maybe 3 kills from my regular gun, otherwise it was something stupid like 120 kills just from mowing them all down at the front edge of the CP. I’m not saying this as a flex, “fearz mah leet skillz!” sort of post. I’m saying this as a, I’m a scrub in ground combat and this makes zero sense and should not be allowed to happen.

Best I can tell, this had no ammo limit. I think the heat bar, that was about it, and I controlled that easily with burst firing. Even the AA guns have an ammo limit. There needs to be some type a limiter on these buildable nest. Because I felt bad just utterly abusing the fact that I had unlimited laser-guided bullets from a covered position.

I mean, I didn’t stop or anything, because a win’s a win. But I felt bad. That counts, right?

Edit: I should probably add some more details on this. So the way the nest was places, there was a narrowed Field of Vision. Basically, the gun was placed such that anyone in my LoS except for the immediate left of the doorway to the road, I could put the gun on. Everything else outside the door was in the kill zone. Having the forward zone of the CP into the direction of the attackers’ advance covered, most of the guys on my side figured out quick to keep the sides covered or mop up anything that slipped through. So there was a lot of teamwork going on.

That said. While there’s plenty of fights that 1000 dudes can’t make it to the first CP, this was just a stupid reason for that. I’m not saying take the nests away. Just… give them a bullet count. Degrade over use. Something to limit them, just because of how useful it is having these things able to put up practically wherever you want.

And before anyone says “They could have chucked a grenade at you”. They tried. They didn’t have time to line up before getting scragged, or couldn’t get an accurate throw over the building. Tank could have, maybe… but they also had to get up to me, and everyone not me was covering the sides.

HMGs are still ridiculous

I have a question. you built a heavy MG looking at One door? Does it not have half a dozen other entrances including windows along side and behind where you built the mg?

Seems to me more likely a lemming train, Continuously trying to go through a bottleneck, lacking the imagination to pick another route.

Not to mention anyone fortifying themselves inside a building is just asking to get burnt to a crisp by a flame thrower, or a HE round from a tank.

Don’t get me wrong, Ive absolutely mowed down hoards of Bots and lemmings with the Heavy MG…but i dont ever remember being killed by one (not saying I havent, its just not memorable because it happens once, you know where it is and flank it or stay out of its killzone) because you hear it from a mile a way, and the tracer fire is like a bloody laser pointer both ways.

I think part of it was just the way that CP’s set up. Yes, there’s windows on the side and everything, but they would have needed to get around the entire rest of the team that was camped on the flanks (basically, everywhere I couldn’t shoot). And yes, they did manage to get through momentarily to take out my MG squad, but I was back at it quick with another squad.

The only approach was the sides, and they had to just about get to the windows to even have a shot, because of how the gun was placed. No shot from across the way. Anything in front was dead men walking. Anything from the sides was getting plastered from the rest of the team.

Yeah, there’s plenty of times where the built nests are at severe disadvantage. I’m not saying they are God’s gift perfect all around. And it could have very well been a bot heavy team on the other side, just running into the spray without a care in the world. I don’t know. But this setup just seemed really, really broken. And when you have a mechanic that broken, even under a specific instance, there needs to be some kind of tweak. Not to nerf it into oblivion, but just… kind of reign in the stupidity.

if your team can lock down all approaches and all flanks of the map at once, Id say the enemy team had bigger issues than the heavy machine gun haha. It happens. Lemming teams happen all the time. Sometimes one team is just stacked.

Personally I like things being stupid strong in their prime situation. gets the adrenaline going. As long as the equation is balanced out by a massive drawback. Luckily emplacements have HUGE weakness to go with it.

It sounds more like brain dead enemies than a ballance issue.

Sounds more like you were just fighting bots the whole time, if they kept pouring in to your kill zone. A real player would’ve tried hard to flush you out with explosives or get in behind you.

…well 1 in 10 players would. In my experience most players who get killed peaking a window or charging down an MG nest or a tank, do the same the exact same thing again repeatedly trying to get a shot at the guy that killed them.
