I routinely shoot “through” wooden buildings with HMGs… mostly from the outside and getting kills on ppl “taking cover” inside - can’t see any reason why they would be impenetrable from the outside but not from the inside!!
so I have no problem with penetration by HMG’s in both directions - way back when I was in the military they gave us a demo of why standing behind a tree is not protection - 7.62 NATO through a 3 ft (.9m) diameter log (white pine - not hardwood) side to side at 200m.
So wooden walls IRL should not protect at all vs anything using full rifle caliber ammo.
But in the context of the game I have no great problem with them protecting vs rifle/SMG caliber but not vs other things that are more powerful.
I have no problem at all with penetration and in fact I am surprised that anyone would find it off putting considering the fact that wood is particularly soft when it comes to rounds of high velocity ammunition
I am also not against penetration mechanics in general, to me it however seems inconsistent when you can shoot through 2 buildings, while thin brickwalls and sheet metal can’t be penetrated at all.
Also for gameplay it sucks when you can shoot spotted tanks through an entire town and basically wallhack kill them.
I don’t know, for me this mechanic seems not polished enough to be helpful to the game.
It’s the problem of the map design and spawns not the problem with the penetration values. I like that my mg can pen wooden walls it’s especially useful as a tanker against camping snipers but i wish overheat would be gone at least on tank/apc or lighter buildable mgs (right now nobody is building them since HMG is just superior).
For me, to have a decent wall penetration mechanic, you should only be able to fight enemies reliably directly behind said wall, because after penetration, a bullet would start to tumble and break apart, or at least change direction. Right now thanks to hitmarkers you can snipe people across the map through multiple walls.
well they increased armor value on wooden walls to 15mm (before it had something like 0.1mm or 1mm) and HMG have penetration 27-29mm at 10m and 20-25mm at 100m. so HMG can still pass through one wall, but not mow down everything through multiple walls like before.
Wall penetration is fine in my book. However, I highly doubt to many rifles or SMG’s could have shot through a Russian log cabin wall back in the 1940’s. I also get shot through Bunker walls, which, IMOP is not much of a bunker if it cannot stop small arms fire. I have been shot completely through tanks, on the other side of hills ect. The physics of the game need some work, however I realize it is a game and it is what it is. But, I am perfectly fine with wall penetration, but it should be somewhat realistic for the weapon and the structure. Hell, for some reason, I cannot kill a Jap inside a grass hut with my level 3 BAR. So, I guess it happens both ways.
