So I’m in sniper school at the moment and it’s had me thinking about areas where the game could easily improve on this.
The game already has pretty realistic bullet drop, and some weapons (mainly machine guns) can even be calibrated for range… but not the sniper rifles? Why not?
Would be great to add range calibration (say, up to 600m) for sniper rifles and let us really play with them.
For the Practice map, add a few metal targets way down range that ping loudly when you hit them, for honing sniper skills.
Finally - and this is a bit trickier, but should still be doable - add wind mechanics for the game by having bullets drift after 200 meters or so. The drift can be a fixed amount and direction chosen randomly at the beginning of the match, or change at random every minute or so - but here’s the catch: only the sniper class has a windage indicator added to their UI. Sniper perks can also be expanded to include more accurate wind reading. This wouldn’t affect players in 90% of circumstances, but would make the sniper class really stand out for those long shots.
Another nice touch would be to add a camouflage kit only usable by the sniper class. This would look similar to the special event/premium camouflage already seen on some Japanese and German troops, and would help give snipers an advantage at staying hidden.
Snipers are an important team component when used properly, especially for pushing through hard points and countering MG spamming. But in their current configuration, they’re not really advantaged over the rifle class. Let’s make the sniper class require skill to pull off - and become a unique and crucial part of the team.
