Smaller squads opens more variety! (for F2P)

Hello lads!

Recently I’ve been using squads with fewer soldiers like for example :

Assaulters 5 soldiers 2 assaulters 1 engi and 1 random (AT, sniper,MG or R ops )

And honestly I’m pretty happy with this change as i noticed i play more with all of them and slightly harder to be noticed

One big pro of using less soldiers is that you can get away from the meta of 3 assaulters squads while still being competitive
by using the 2 assaulter soldiers per squad doctrine you have access to flametroopers and mortar squads so you can play with some more variety

And yes you can be competitive with a small squad, 6/7/8/9 squads are just overkill tbh

There is pretty much no benefit to having huge squads since the AI will just get themselves killed

that makes no sense, so by your logic since the AI will get themselves killed and stand out in the open either way having extra guys is like having extra chances that one of them will actually stay down and take cover…I level up new squads all the time and there is no advantage to having less people, the bots don’t notice whether or not your team has 5 or 9 guys they only notice how many shots you take and how close you are and if you are firing near their position or not…bots in this game work based on a threat level, the more you shoot the higher your threat level becomes, that is why you always get aimbotted out of nowhere when playing flametrooper by some bot across the map, because you are increasing your threat level with every tick of the gas…so if you shoot out a bunch of gas like 75 gas ticks, the AI will treat you as if you have shot 75 bullets…should be fixed IMO but yeah that is how it works as of right now…

Honestly there are a LOT of good times to have larger squads.
For example, My Normandy Allies setup uses two 9 man squads, 8 M2 Carbines and 1 Browning A6. All that’s needed is to mark and then they’ll toss bullets at a poor german that is spotted
Really they have a few nice benefits:
Pros:

  • Easier to capture a point / overwhelm a smaller team with more troops at your disposal.
  • Outfitting a 9 man squad with SF rifles can prove to be extremely effective just from the amount of bullets they can toss out.
  • More men = more bullets your enemies have to fire before you’re sent back to the respawn screen = more work you can get done in one life. Maxed 9-man riflemen squads can also have the pro of being able to be just a good all-rounder, my go-to setup being 1 MG, 1 AT, 1 Engineer, and for Normandy especially this is amazing since I have 8 M2 Carbines, 1 M9 Bazooka, and 1 Browning A6 per squad, which allows me to cover just general pushing an area + encountering enemy tanks (hopefully if the AT gunner didn’t die)

Cons:

  • More people can mean faster you can be spotted by enemy teams
  • Bot deaths count to your K/D, which these squads can tend to sometimes lower (aka barely a con since you should be able to balance it out either way assuming you have a good setup for your 9 man squad paired with proper positioning + marking + possibly formations)

There is no reason to not use the max capacity allowed for any given squad.

This “con” can definitely be ignored in this game.

Also, don’t tickets drain just the same regardless of the size of squads?

Yeah I believe so, but many things the devs don’t explain or aren’t transparent about, including the score system, most likely cuz every time we get more info we discover more shady stuff they are doing…the community right now is just trying to fix the bot farm problem going on rn with the crazy low player count…hopefully balance and progression issues are fixed soon before the game dies from lack of player retention!

TBF, Gaijin’s business model (yeah, yeah, I know, “this is Darkflow” and stuff, but it’s Gaijin pulling the financial strings) so far looks happy enough with high turnover and attracting new fresh meat, rather than retaining old players.

Yeah and this business model with crazy slow progression and huge power gaps between low and high levels and no matchmaking makes the player retention even worse…meaning no long term profit or sales and limited interest and player numbers which means limited content and development…game will never be finished due to ridiculous management from Gaijin…
