Perhaps it’s a bit off topic, but does anyone know why Type 95 military sword (九五式軍刀) is called “Shin-Gunto Type 95” in the game?
Shin-Gunto (新軍刀) just means new military sword (it replace old 32th year type military sword), so I have question why it treated as proper noun.
It’s another one of those things where the English language decided to just take the phonetics of a weapon in another language and just use that as the name. Think of this naming convention like the Type Hei rifle. If you take the direct translation, it should be Type C rifle, but the Hei was used there for some reason.

At least, shin-gunto (new military sword) just means new sword so I have question why this word become a proper noun to mean the Type 95 military sword in English. Although it seems popular among English speaking area so I think we don’t need to change it. Just question.
Yeah, English is a strange language and it just does things in an interesting way.
Well, I guess Japanese will do such strange ways, too.
