Carcano M38 (7.92) (German axis volksturm)

The carcano m38 was an Italians carbine used by the volksturm which turned into a single shot rifle for the volksturm which was formally a 7.35 to a 7.92 chambered carbine that has a piece of wood as a platform for the carbine

As a couple choices for Japan, I think either the last ditch National Defence rifle or Japanese Matchlock Tanegashimas converted to M.1880 Murata breech loading muskets, would be fitting enough for a single shot rifle squad.

Admittedly I had forgotten the type 13 in my desire for something niche and lavish like the tanegashima. You are quite correct and the type 13 would likely be more suitable.
