basically, I had a discussion with some mates about bipod mechanics in general, and we kind of agreed that bipods are mechanically speaking always problematic and difficult to implement in video games. However we agreed that there can be exceptions to this, because there are two games that I can think of that got this mechanic right.
-Battlefield 1 → where you automatically deploy your bipod once you have a suitable surface to do so.
and surprisingly
-Call of Duty 1 → the very first Call of Duty game with its expansion handled bipods in a way that you deploy it automatically as soon as you lay down
So I would say why not think about whether this is something Enlisted could get inspiration from?
In the end MGs need some love, and a fast and strong deployable bipod would definitely be a big buff to this weapon class, while still giving it a unique feeling, without just being OP super assault rifles like they were in CBT.
I agree but Io think the devs are going to improve them, the main issue I have is bracing LMGs (even though there should be an animation to go with them ideally).
yea thats the thing, if you specifically compare enlisted with the old Cod 1, you’ll find out that most of the maps in that game had extremely flat terrain, as usual for older games, which made it easy with bracing and elevation.
Then compared to Battlefield 1 it just seems that the bipod is just simply forced no matter where you are laying down and it works fine.
So my thoughts are if it makes sense to simply add the bipod bonuses no matter what as long as you lay down. That would be an extremely “simple” way to deal with the bipod issues, maybe even lazy tho.
maybe… just give weapons with bipods a “slower” time to lay down, then again, I would argue that laying down is too fast in general, to a point where that one “faster crouching and laying down perk” makes no real difference because its almost instantaneously anways.
On one hand I like your idea. However, one main issue comes to mind: what happens if you try to crawl in this state?
I still think the better option is for them to work on the bracing system, so that its easier to brace on more surfaces, as well as DEPLOY THE BIPOD when braced. That also changes the swivel point when bracing, as it should with a bipod. This way, you get it when laying down, on a window, on a crate, on the lip of a rooftop, on a pile of rubble, etc. If you could realistically set your gun on it, you should be able to brace without an issue.
Yes the machine gun and bipod thing can be extremely frustrating, frequently I think to myself when I’m trying to make one of them deploy is that I would be able to get more kills with just a freaking bolt action rifle then I could with the machine gun because I can’t deploy it half the time
Hi! Devs are currently working on improving the bipods.
I can’t say exactly what kind of improvement it will be, but I can assure you that work is underway!
