Simple Melee Combat Enhancement

Hello,

I have a simple suggestion that would be easy to implement in your engine and would add a cool dynamic to melee combat.

If two players do a melee attack at the same time with a rifle or bayonet (or other larger weapon) while they are facing one another the weapons should have a chance to deflect off of one another instead of completing a successful strike. Knives could be immune to this because of their maneuverability - but hand to hand combat with rifles is likely to have a parry or two and I think this would be a great way to capture that without adding any extra controls.

sounds fun

I doubt this would be simple but I would love to see some actual melee weapon-body interatcions instead of a simple poke:

Sounds cool, but a waste of time. Why engage in a glorious melee combat when you can just kill them from a distance. plus i don’t think it would work well with enlisted

Better off playing beyond the wire they got better melee combat or chiv and mordhau

because it’s fun and sometimes you can get distracted enemies (and bots) without wasting ammo

I agree it would be cool to see more than just the poke.

Regarding the Enlisted engine I noticed when climbing ladders that the characters hands actually grab the rungs, and sometimes a bit glitchy from the back of the ladder if your approach it from the side - at least in first person - I haven’t watched someone climb closely to see if this happens in third person - but it seems that the model used is the same one and maybe the head turns invisible in 1st person.

It is related cause it shows that the models use a solid inverse kinematics system where their movement can be based on the hand/weapon location. I suspect that the developers could take advantage of that IK system and create even true weapons collisions with less effort than making an animation system that triggers like in BF1. If the IK is already there it might not take much more processing power either.

Though I do love that even with poke only there are some intense melee exchanges with other players.

I like using every tool given to me for a variety of play. Enlisted stands out to me in many ways except melee combat is a bit weak.

Do you never engage in Melee combat? I find myself maybe getting a 1/4 of my kills regularly from Melee.

I rarely engage in melee combat. because they’re already dead when im in melee range (i shot him first)
