Shovel dynamics, physics and improvements

Shovels could be a great tool for having a bit more creative dynamic gameplay, i’ve seen some people dig up trenches for spawn points or trenches leading all the way to the point capture - but rarely

Often from my experience digging up trenches to put spawn point can be a bit of challenging since ground needs to be flat for spawn to be added

I suggest improving shovel physics either one of those

1 - Give us selection mode between digging and flattening ground - simple as it gets, you dig to certain depth and then you switch mode and take dirt on shovel and toss it on to a ground to flatten it for spawnpoint

or

2 - Make ground automatically flatten up after a certain depth

Generally, shovels could be a nice tool - but are usually a bit of a time waste - especially if you cant get the soil to an acceptable angle to build a spawn point
I noticed this is much harder if i start digging on soil that’s already at a certain angle

Digging up a trench for spawn point would work well on open area maps …

I too have suggested this in the past, and I 100% agree.

It would be nice if the flatten function could be used to flatten areas that are otherwise to uneven to build on in general.

Additionally, I would like to see a function to “raise” ground as well, so in maps that have shallow digging depth, you can raise the ground around the sides of the trench to give better cover.

After thinking about it, a good way to go about this without adding too many extra steps as it is rather time consuming in the first place, is to enable a toggle switch that allows for 4 types of terrain manipulation with the shovel:

  • digging
  • flattening
  • raising
  • *raised edge trenching

*The raised edge trenching would dig as it is now, but with the added bonus of automatically raising the dirt on the left side of the hole.
This would allow for quick construction of more effective trenches and foxholes to be dug.
In addition, it could be used in tandem with the standard digging to create areas that are more open to be able to shoot from within the trench.

SIDE NOTE: For those that are not aware, digging speed can be sped up a little bit by taking the melee swing speed perk. I do however wish that they would further increase the speed of this perk specifically for shovels.

I know someone suggested it before, and i havent forgotten about suggestion. The idea number 1 is actually taken from your suggestion - so i must give you a full credit for it :person_shrugging:

i like this too! tried putting a spawn in a hole the other day and gave up :stuck_out_tongue:

also, if at all possible could more ground on tunisia maps be digable? most of ti isnt :frowning:

There was an update a while back that made a lot of areas untrenchable, and having gone through and tested various spots, I came to the conclusion its because myself and others would set barbwire in trenches in that location, making it significantly harder to traverse as an attacker. (which is what defenders are supposed to do!)

Naturally, people complained because they didn’t like getting slowed down as they ran across the open field toward the enemy objective.

well that sucks :frowning: makes shuvels in tunisia campain basicaly pointless

The devs need to get a stick out of their ass and stop focusing on the fast-paced gameplay it’s more destructive than good

this is GOD tier comment, think for a moment the classic tank who end trapped in a trench and you could dig it out or make a way with dirt for make it can move!

Oh man! I posted this very same thing - I should have read further. Excellent. I would be okay if the rally automatically went level if installing on a dug area.
