Shotguns should be buffed again

Well here we go again, it has been quite a while but shotguns are still magically useless past a few meters so they are outclassed by even the second line rifles. Can we get at least a 40m effective range for shotguns?

So at least it may have its own use case that is not entirely outclassed by a free rifle that comes with every new soldier. Thanks

This is basically a range from a rally to the objective.
So shotguns would become basically a delete button in fights for the objective.
A bit too much I’d say.

But overall I agree. Shotguns aren’t really a good alternative to other weapons.

Agree with this one. The only good shotguns as of now is browning auto 5 in the Pacific and double barrel shotguns. Pump action ones are difficult to use sadly.

Wouldnt mind a reason to use shotguns.

Take too long to reload for the kill potential

The shotguns are in a really bad state at the moment, I think a buff is warranted but not as large as the one you have described.

40m is the effective range of a short barrel shotgun with 00 buck shot rounds, which is what you would see as a combat shotgun, you would expect longer ranges from something like the toz-b which is a hunting shotgun with a longer barrel.

Anyways with 40 meters effective range they would be strong at close quarters, but probably not as strong as flamethrowers. So I think they would be fine.

I just put the real effective range of shotguns. Which is half of the range shotguns used to have in the old days, they were not a problem back then, so I doubt that this buff would make them overpowered.

Auto-5 is pretty good actually, but the rest of shotguns definitely should be buffed, especially double barreled.

And i think that various ammo types should be available (slug, buck, gauge, etc)

Having too much range makes them overpowered. As is, I use them a lot. They seem fine to me for the most part. They take a moment to aim but if your shot is on target, the enemy is dead up to 25m.
They do significantly more damage than even bolt action rifles at close range, which is their intended purpose, and can even drop a full health player with vitality.
If ANY change were made, I’d say buff the base damage a little bit and increase the spread a little bit. (Once you upgrade them, the spread gets extremely tight, which is great for longer range, but actually hurts it a bit at closer range, where it is supposed to be doing its best.)

The steep damage falloff at range needs to stay.

I think that within 15 meters, 5 or more pellets hitting a target should insta kill them, no downed state and no hitmarkers, just setting their hp to 0.

well effective range doesnt mean one hit kill at 40 meters.

I’d say make them all fire magnum buck 6-12 pellets each shot that do pistol like 5 damage each. Just tweak the dispersion for balance, so start with at 30m 3 pellets hit that downs or headshots soldiers.

It just needs to reliably OHK up close and have a small potential to do considerable damage multiple soldiers with one blast.

The shotguns seem fine the way they are now, the ROF of the pump actions just seems slow.

They need at least to reliably OHK tho.
