Why not make the AI stay on the mg nest and anti-aircraft guns so that they can attack enemies who enter a certain range?
When I use engineers or machine gun units, if I find a good spot, I will set up MG nests and various guns even if I don’t use them. I am happy when my allies use them. But…there are times when allies don’t use them.
For example, when defending a CP, you want to place MG nests on the flanks a bit away from the CP to widen the defense line. Most of the allies will stay in the CP, so even if you place MG nests, they will ignore you. …In such a case, it would be nice to have the AI stay in place and become like a sentry gun.
Bot controlled Field Guns, AA and MG is something I think about there’s quite some time, but prepare yourself for the influx of whining about bots being too op and it would break the game.
On this forum there is a untold rule, if something kills you in game then it must be nerfed.
You are right, in addition to the AI not being able to use AA or MG, the distance issue makes this suggestion impossible.
I’m sure DF designed it that way with some intention…but I’d like to see it gone because distance issues are a nuisance even when playing as infantry.
Yes, I was sure that such objections would come. I was sure that I would get that objection, because machine guns operated by aircraft AIs are very accurate within a certain distance.
My guess is that the firing accuracy of the bot is adjustable. We have seen the infantry bot’s shooting accuracy change over the several updates this game has gone through.
I think maybe a time counting system can solve this. So when bot on mg or aa or at see an enemy they start to fire. But these rounds are fired meters away from the target. And this lock stays for few second before the bot get a kill. Like player hear the gun fire and get killed if they do not leave the kill zone. And for mg the bot immediately lock on another target and the kill time for the second guy is halfed and so on
This is an extension of a suggestion that AI needs to just shoot their guns more. They already have unlimited ammo, I want fire superiority and rounds flying downrange at my markers!
I think this would be good because most the time people are focusing on exp an kills and not winning or being in a supportive rule that takes time like AA gunner. Assignable so could be a good fix
To add to this part of the OP, it would be cool if the developers implemented a mechanic that allows players to mark friendly MG’s with a blue icon that’s visible on the minimap and the HUD for 10-15 seconds (like marking an enemy tank, rally point, MG nest, etc.).
It would be so beneficial if players could mark their own engineer constructables and friendly constructables (with a blue icon), so that other players are aware of their existence and locations on the battlefield.
it already exists but only for engineers when they have their construction tool equipped. the map shows all structures that have been built by everyone on your team
The other day I hid some AA in a wheat field in Normandy, and when I needed some AA I couldn’t figure out where I had planted it.
I wish I had known about that.
Yeah I’m aware, but what I’m suggesting is different. What we have now, doesn’t benefit anybody who’s not using an engineer and is actively looking for other teammate’s buildables. Generally if you have an engineer, with the exception to rally points marked on the map, you’re building your own stuff as opposed to looking for machine guns/AA that’s been constructed by teammates.
It would be beneficial to mark friendly items with blue icons, while enemy icons are marked red.
Overall the entire AI needs to be improved and badly (Easy to say, I know…)
Its just today I was gaming Berlin and I saw three of my men directly just standing peacefully next to 3 Russian AI soldiers, literally both were staring each other and neither side took a shot?
I was wondering for a while there thinking that they were both having a smoke or something, lucky my enemy AI turkeys were just as dumb as my own ones.
I am all in for all sorts of world peace events and all that but in this video game it is pretty annoying, you have a squad of men with you and you are almost all the time the only one that uses weapons? The AI soldiers should engage more aggressively and do their bid in the fighting, that would also increase the realism of the game significantly.
It would also make the servers feel a lot less… Empty occasionally? Fighting against a really good AI is also plenty of fun, knowing that there are REAL online players among them is just golden.
Shooting dummies and dragging your own dumb dumb turkeys after your ass half a map gets pretty lame.
I would love nothing more but to outsource some of the fighting to my actual squad and let the AI engage the enemy most of the time. In some games that is done and it is awesome.
No matter what anyone says in this conversation I do not believe the devs care because they hate the concept of kill zones because it ruins the fast paced gameplay they’re trying to push on all of us.
You seem to have a distrust of developers. Don’t worry, they are not our enemies.
If this proposal catches their interest they will consider it, if it is not feasible they will simply ignore it.
Now…AI sentries do not change the pace of the game, Imo.
It helps to prevent unprotected players and AI attacks and create choke points, but it could easily be neutralized if the attacking player finds the AI’s MG Nests a nuisance.
They can use sniper rifles or mortars to kill the shooter. In the case of a player-controlled MG Nest, if the shooter is killed, the next shooter will follow, but in the case of an AI, you probably only need to kill one or two. Just kill the crew that boarded the nest when the player ordered them to stay in the nest, and the suppression is complete.
It will also be useful to go around the flank of the nest, the player will counter when he realizes that the enemy has gone around the flank of the nest, but the AI MGnest will just shoot what enters the kill zone.
Yes but that would require fast-paced gaming to die so people learn to start strategically clearing objectives instead of zerg rushing right into the objective.
Speaking of that, it would be cool to have the option to spawn into a squad mates gunner positions from the respawn screen.
But in practice, most of the time being a gunner is very boring though (plane gunner). In battlefield 1 or 5, unless you had a downward arc you were mostly a passenger.
I would like to be able to swap to my bot at a key press to use the gun before swapping back to pilot though.
That was truly excellent in the bf series. Much prefered doing my own tail gunning to the point it pissed me off when someone else (random) occupied it lol…
The more I think about this, the more I believe that the “kill-zone fest” gameplay right now is a symptom of it being in beta. Maybe I’m just feeling optimistic but I think we can look forward to a total revamp here soon.
The AI is THE marketing point of this game along with all the authentic weapons.
There have been rare little tweaks here and there to the AI but I feel a shift coming.
