IDK what was your expirience from first open test but mine was that if semi-autos have same damages as kar’s and mosins, then every IRL player have transforms into burst fiering MG. If we would proper damage models at 0 stars then at 2 stars you would become pratically invincible. And semi-auto at 1 star is already more useful than a pistol at 30 meters or so. And when getting 2 star semi you get 10 hitpoints.
I would propose simple solution - first upgrade should be to the damage so it lands at 15 or 12, and second star would be reduction of horizontal recoil without touching vertical one (as it would be preety realistic- full power .30 cal have amaizing horisontal recoil when u use it in an early has operated semi-auto).
Another point would be increased damage fall off as leaving it in would totally eleminate niethe of manuals thus making it harder for new players to enjoy the game with stock sqads. (As ALL semi-autos of the period where gas operated it would be pretty realistic). That would enable them to have 10-12 damage stock and 15 fully upgraded.
Stupides thing i ever seen. 9mm is more than 7.62mm/7.92mm. The thing that matters in damage IRL is energy that bullet can give out to the target. That is dependent on kinetic energy of the bullet, calliber (barrel diameter). Kinetic energy is dependent on range that this bullet already traveled, energy that powder in the case have and how much of it was taken by the operating mechanism ( in case of the manual it is nearly 1:1 while in s-a a lot of it is taken and wasted on making it running.
if there’s on thing you should take out of this post is caliber =/= cartrige ( and i sincerly hope that this is what you ment and i just wasted 5 minutes)
Totally agree with what you wrote. However, even if I believe in-game guns should be made as realistic as possible using kinetic energy as the main variable, some bullets (mostly British and Italians) had their tips made of alluminium so they could deal more more damage on the target whilst reducing weight and so kinetic energy. This would result into a tremendous nerf on some nation’s weapons. How should we deal with this?
well MGs do as much damage as bolt actions and you dont see anyone complain about those because of recoil. Furthermore, you wouldnt really use the semi auto over a distance further than 30m because the bolt action would be better in that case, because a trooper can carry both a semi and a bolt action, there is no reason not to. If the recoil of the semi-automatics is increased, they could get increased damage as they are weaker than SMGs at short range and weaker than bolt actions at long range. Let them have that middle field with mediocre damage in between that of the bolt action and the SMG.
idk what you are talking about, but kinetic energy is determined by mass*velocity. A long (rifle-styled) 7.92mm bullet can have more mass than a short (pistol/SMG styled) 9mm bullet. Furthermore, the long bullets have higher velocity. The bigger diameter is to add stopping power at short distances, as you dont need as much muzzle velocity in that case, but velocity goes down faster due to lesser aerodynamic properties.
Furthermore, the damage can be determined by the design of the bullet. For example, the 14.5mm bullet fired by the PTRS has an incendiary core, leading to highly enhanced damage compared to a solid projectile.
I just wen’t off on a rant abut gun’s. People confuse a lot of terms and as a person who aspires to get into the industry it just makes me mad. Although my reaction was inadequate for situation so…
I’m sorry. I was frustrated and i wasted a bit of everyone’s time.
BTW. you are right in many aspects of your post but i just wanted to simplfy as much as it’s possible the subject for the layman.
Semiautomatic rifles shouldn’t be artificially nerfed to make Bolt actions more viable. If you want to limit the amount in a squad, limit them to only a few classes
