Sd Kfz 251/9 to Tank Slot

The Sd Kfz 251/9 is a previous event APC with obviously the ability to spawn allies. I think this vehicle, and all future halftracks that are armed with anything other than a basic MG, should be a “tank slot”.

Originally the halftracks armed with basic MGs like the M3 Halftrack or Sd Kfz 251 were designed to specifically ferry infantry to the battlefield. More specialized variants were developed, but usually these variants were not meant to carry infantry but were specifically combat vehicles. I think these vehicles should all be “tank slots”. The “tank slot” itself isn’t so much a tank slot but more of a combat vehicle slot. Tanks, tank destroyers, SPAA, assault guns, etc

I specified the Sd Kfz 251/9 for this post because it is the only APC that is armed with anything other than an MG. If this little one is nipped in the bud then we can move forward and ensure a basic standard. It’s like why would the Sd Kfz 251 armed with a Pak 40 be an APC but the Stuart is a tank. That’s the point, they’re both combat vehicles so they share the same slot. The M13 Halftrack SPAA isn’t an APC but a vehicle slot.

So the M3 Halftrack or Sd Kfz 251 with their MG are your basic APCs, but a M3 or 251 with an AT gun would be a vehicle slot. The APC is a gimmick class anyway like Motorcycles

If it’s a Halftrack or something armed with an MG, it’s an APC/ Rider vehicle. If it’s a Halftrack or something armed with

  • flamethrower
  • rocket
  • artillery
  • mortar
  • AT gun
  • auto-cannon
  • explicitly SPAA role
  • etc

Then it’s a combat vehicle slot

Yeah, and rally points are gimmick structure just like barbed wires.

OR we could not do that as the Universal Carrier becomes a tank because of it’s Boys ATR.

The Boys ATR wasn’t actually a common armament, in fact I was surprised the devs added it. I guess they wanted it to be a little competitive. Personally I would remove the Boys, but regardless that can stay an APC

a rilfe that have nearly 62k unit is consider uncommon? then i guess panzer 4 are consider rare since only nearly 9k of them were produce

No thanks it’s cannon is worthless against tanks you can only use half of your shells to deal with infantry it’s the useless vehicle since you can only have 4 soldiers instead of 6.

I meant that it was not a common armament on the Universal carrier. The majority were solely MG

But that same argument could be made for a variety of vehicles. One could say why bother using a light tank if it “sucks” compared to its larger brothers. Light and heavy tanks still share the same slot. At the end of the day its just another vehicle to choose from, whether one feels like using a Panther or Panzer II or a Sd Kfz 251/9

The difference is that it’d be a waste of tickets, until light vehicles get a separate ticket cost and a separate slot I will not be happy when my teammate brings a Pz 2 C into a BR 5 fight.

Nobody would want to use or slot it so your idea is pointless. And you will quickly move to BR2 and BR3 vehicles from BR1 and nobody would want to spawn those crappy Panzers II/III (non J1/N) once they get something better and kfz 251/9 is even worse it has garbage cannon and no armor with just 4 troopers, truck or premium apc are much better.

After your change when you spawn 251/9 and steal tank slot you will instantly make your team to be at a huge disadvantage since you can’t deal with a single tank of BR higher than 1 and enemies will have two powerful tanks vs one of yours. Imagine match where you play vs KV-1 and another dude with T-50 that you can’t kill since some idiot spawned 251/9 and another one is in Pz2. I would quit the game instantly.

Why do you always want to murder Germany with your nerfs? Can you leave Germany alone? We don’t need your garbage balancing that will ruin the game even more.

I truly believe everyone should play as whatever vehicle they feel like. I don’t care what anyone spawns as, all that they do whatever they can. As I always say sometimes I feel like playing a Panther, others a Panzer II. If I’m a M13 Halftrack I’m gonna shred the incoming enemy to the best of my ability. We all bring whatever we can to the table

I’d say the issue is many players don’t know all the fundamentals of this game, in this case someone literally just build an AT gun. There are 4 ways to deal with an enemy tank

  • your own tanks
  • your planes
  • build an AT gun
  • your soldiers gadgets, grenades, etc

At the very least one person on the team is capable of dealing with an enemy vehicle with any of these options.

The point is that matches should be dynamic where there are many different options to fight in the battle.

As a tangent, I have proposed that AT squad’s should get a heavy AT gun/ flak cannon as their unique Engineer building that will be the ultimate weapon against any vehicle. I know you may say but what if you don’t have an AT squad in your lineup, well I would say the point is at the very least there should be a single player who does and if they’re smart they would build one.

I think about how in reality during the war different vehicle types acted in specific tactical units. For example, light tanks, tankettes, armored cars were used as reconnaissance and patrol vehicles; mediums were the “infantry” of the tank family, heavy tanks were for break throughs and spearheads, etc… I think it could be interesting if there were different vehicle slots for these different units.

But the issue is simply that in the game right now we only have 10 players per team with 2 vehicle slots. In this state what would the point be of having different slots if there’s only 2 vehicles on the field.

I will say that my pipe dream of a giant battle would have larger teams (50 vs 50) and there would be 10 vehicle slots per team; and the idea of having different vehicle type slots could work with that, but a giant battle may not be for a long time let alone even possible in this game’s state.

Which is why I just think that this vehicle should just get lumped into the vehicle slot.

As I’ve said, at the very least if its armed with just an MG I think it should be a Rider vehicle, anything else just make it the combat vehicle slot

I would like bigger battles and different vehicle slots, until then I will have to disagree with you that we should lump non-MG APCs into tank slots.

Moving Sd.Kfz 251/9 to tank slot would be catastrophic.
Changing something after people have grinded and unlocked it would just make players angry.
Sdkfz.251/9 as a tank with its paper armour would be BR1 but it would have a strong HE shell which would get abused.

Honestly I think the event rewards were planned poorly, bith Sd.Kfz251/9 and UC, but changing it to tank would not solve the problem just push it to others.

I disagree!

Using APCs as an attack vehicle is fun, and I do it myself sometimes; however, APCs are not meant to be used in this manner: Their primary use is a spawn vehicle—which means you should move from point A to point B as quietly as possible without engaging the enemy with the onboard weapons (unless you’re forced to). They are for defensive purposes only. And, of course, APCs should be hidden from the enemy—just like spawn points. If you’re making a lot of noise that draws the enemy’s attention, how are you supposed to hide your APC properly?

In fact, a toggle switch should be added for APCs to turn the weapons off if the owner so chooses, and we should also have a toggle switch to keep the AI soldiers from firing their weapons while traveling in an APC—again, for noise discipline. When weapons are shot from an APC (or the driver honks his horn), all you’re doing is advertising your position to the enemy.

Therefore, APCs should not take up one of our limited tank slots. It is not a tank or a fighting vehicle.
