Sd. Kfz. 251/9 Binocular Support

I absolutely adore this vehicle, but the lack of binocular support makes me a sad panda. When do we see the ability to use binoculars for the gunner seat?

A side note to this wonderful vehicle: It would be cool to get the privilege of sporting some nice looking custom camo and decorations for it as well.

I would love to be able to use binoculars in an airplane as well.

Right now all the zoom you get is “pinch your eyes together 4head” unless your plane has a scope (and very few have one), and it’s excruciatingly difficult to spot infantry targets (for this and a thousand other reasons).

Having binoculars would raise the skill ceiling for planes even further than the gunner control already has, in terms of spotting your own targets. I think it’d be a fun mechanic to have access to, and it’d give another use case to binoculars (you really don’t need to fill the binocular slot at the moment unless you’re a completionist).

All ground vehicles that are either open topped or have hatches should support binoculars.

I believe it is just laziness of developers who do not bother enough to make it work.

If you wanna spot a target from far away set your FOV to 0

That would certainly be very fun to do, but I guess it would be very taxing on the average system. If such a mechanic could be implemented, somehow, then we could also have a recon plane class or something. That each team get a single lightly armed and slow recon plane, apart from the other two slots for air, that could detect infantry and vehicles as well as call in artillery strikes. Would be really fucking cool and a good help for the team, but it would be extremely vulnerable to basically all planes.

Their hands are probably full of more pressing stuff to do first, so they might have this in their to-do list? Or as you say, they are lazy, who knows? Haha. Thing is, from their perspective, it’s work and needs to pay for itself somehow. Then they will definitely do it, if it pays off in making a great game that people flock to. I for one, certainly think it would be hella fun to use binoculars wherever I can. I equip my AT gunners with that as well. Just very nice to have to mark targets with. It’s a great feature they have in this game that I very much like.

Yeah! Literally what it’s meant to be, a reconnaissance vehicle!

Speaking of hatches and open top vehicles, it would also be cool if you could throw grenades out of there. I myself would like to carry smoke grenades to throw before retreating back from a position to perform vehicle repair.

So, I have noticed that it’s “possible” LOL gross overstatement, to use the binoculars when having selected one of the seated soldiers in the back. However, it is broken because as you press for binoculars he then briefly stands up to get a good view, but as soon as he places the binoculars to his face he sits down again, so nothing can be seen.

And then the recon biplane can actually recon!! :exploding_head:

I’m positive you can on any vehicle that supports the personal weapon feature. Just swap to your grenade while having personal weapon toggled.

Oh is that so??? What? I have to try that now and see

I tried it and as far as I can tell there’s no such thing. Sure you can toggle your personal weapon from the hatch position, but that’s it, and you can not throw grenades.

I don’t know what to tell ya, I’ve thrown grenades from the hatch of both a T-50 and T-60.

I tried it from a p4 and didn’t work, will try those vehicles and see if you are only shitting me, lol. Or it might be that I have changed the buttons/controls for grenades and other things maybe, I don’t know.

My grenades are L1, I swear I’m not. I have done it in awhile though so if they changed it I’m sorry.

I just thought that also the Kübelwagen and the Jeep deserve some love at some point. These vehicles are strewn across the maps, to mostly get blown up, but will also often be used to get to a point quickly. I do think that to be able to stand up with binoculars in these vehicles would be pretty cool. So you can do some scouting on the approach. Now, this will probably be way down in the priorities, but I think it too should be done. Or maybe we will eventually see some variants of these vehicles with MG attached etc? These would be in the same class as the bikes with side carriage, I imagine.
