Running and sprinting perks

With reference to the perks +10% run speed and +15% sprint speed:

There doesn’t seem to be a “walk” speed in the game, so I assume that all standing movement is considered a “run,” with the exception of movement while holding the “sprint” key; which is a “sprint.”

With these definitions in mind, one could conclude that the run speed perk works only while running, while the sprint perk works only while sprinting. However, in my limited testing it appears that both perks seem to increase speed regardless of whether the soldier is “running” or “sprinting.”

Given the 10 point cost spread between the perks, choosing run speed over sprint speed could be beneficial for builds that utilize other mobility perks. Understanding when these perks are activated is important to understanding how to value “run” speed vs “sprint” speed.

My question is when and how does each perk actually affect movement?

Good question, I have always been confused by this too…

Put 15% Sprint speed on a trooper 2. The 5% stacks and trust me, there is a difference :sunglasses:

I noticed that sprint speed makes sprinting faster

Run speed makes all movement speed faster (not crouch)

So run speed is a essentially a low grade sprint speed perk for cheap

I’ve noticed the same thing too. The run speed perk still increases your sprinting speed, and even your charging speed (with a bayonet). Sprint speed may be a little bit faster, but it doesn’t seem significant enough to warrant the higher perk point cost. Also, consider how much less likely the sprint perk is to appear compared to the run speed perk. First you need to have a soldier ranked up to the final rank V - which costs 18 bronze troop orders instead of the usual 6 for every previous rank, and then you have to use ALL your perk points on just one perk, so you lose the ability to have multiple mobility perks. Once you have the required 16 pts the game can present you with a whole load of mobility perks you don’t want before you get the sprint perk - and to get the exp every time when it’s likely you need 6400+ exp to choose a perk again requires so much more game time to obtain (or you spend money on re-rolls yet still get the useless perks you don’t want every damn time).
I avoid all this and just make sure my soldier has only 6 mobility pts available (or as near as possible) so that the game can only offer a very limited number of perks - which makes it far more likely that run speed will come up.
Choosing run speed instead of sprint speed also allows you to have the very useful ‘movement speed while crawling or crouching’ perk for 3pts which personally I can’t do without (the normal crouch movement speed is painfully slow when you’ve come from games where you can crouch and sprint eg Arma 3).
