If you’ve played the “Total War” series you’ll know that soldiers don’t just fight to the death, they can be routed and become ineffective for a period of time
It would be cool if Enlisted solders had moral drop low enough that they’ll stop following orders and be routed becoming ineffective
It would be much more realistic if AI had this feature, they literally had to chain Japanese troops to MG nests so they wouldn’t retreat.
Morale could be calculated by:
-friendly solders dying/getting downed in their proximity,
-number of friendly soldiers vs enemy soldiers in proximity
-increased by killing enemies, capping (lowered if enemy caps)
-available cover if taking fire
-modifier bonus for squad members vs. non-squad friendly soldiers
-modifier for method of casualties (flamethrower, melee kill, aircraft, tank)
-modifier for officer casualties
What happens to routed AI?
-Demoralized routed soldiers would be controllable only after theyve retreated to the nearest rally point/spawns, they would automatically return to player at this point
(which is double whammy because you tip off enemies to where your rally points are)
-Routed troops would still defend themselves if taking fire but wouldnt engage unless being attacked
-You can’t play as a routed soldier unless it’s the last man in your squad
This could integrate ideas other players have made like:
-letting Engineers build loud speakers to improve friendly morale and reduce enemy morale
-Or having Officers that effect troop morale like loud speakers but only for friendly troops
(proximity of medics would also raise morale)
