Rework Reinhard Rust & his tunic ( mostly his tunic, but general improvements for the guy too as bonuses )

greetings.

long story short, today i come with a suggestion that aims to tackle a couple of issues:

( in no way, shape or form, really a priority. let it be clear )

  • rework the Halloween soldier reinhard rust

  • add long await short sleeve for the german army to later add for the basic customization

  • rework or add a serie of items based on the model of the " kitel " tunic ( based on the german m40 tunic ) to include colorations of collars and tabs ( more on that later )

i will probably suggest to rework others squads too. but as Cms and helpers advice, one topic at a time.

Main Suggestion

so, my main suggestion in this topic, is to rework the kitel uniform given to the halloween squad.

it is arguably one of the most controversial squads.
for a couple of reasons, A, it looks unrealistic. B, it could use few adjustment to be more realistic. C, " two pidgeons and a stone " taking what we have, and make it better. but mostly for the future. as i donā€™t intend to limit this cool tunic for one singular dude.

which again, iā€™ll get into later.
but what iā€™m talking about is:

the ripped off m40 tunic:

  • attachable_wear_ger_hw_even_kitel_green_item
  • attachable_wear_ger_hw_even_kitel_gray_item
  • attachable_wear_ger_hw_even_kitel_engineer_item

and it would be better, if we could transform it / get it replaced with a

( add )short sleeves versions

as you can see, mines arenā€™t perfect because i cannot edit existing pieces. so i just fused two items into one as a demonstration through the editor. )

but the difference is night and day:

as briefly mentioned,
with the introduction of these tunics, we can tackle few issues at once:

  • replace the unrealistic appearance of the HW german soldier

  • add long awaited and requested short sleeves for the german army

Semantics of "people bought it"

these uniforms are not going away. which itā€™s why iā€™m suggesting to add new versions.

but, these new versions will replace the ripped off versions in the base game.
and the ripped off versions will only appear in zombie modes.

how? you may ask?

well, itā€™s very simple.

by just changing itā€™s animchar.
itā€™s a thing that modders can do, and i bet developers can too.

here is an example;

you can transform and change appearance with a simple code:

but i digress in a otherwise long thread

add the colorable tabs and ranks textures ( similar to the feldgendarmerie uniforms )

99% of the players will be confused by what i mean and most likely donā€™t even know what iā€™m talking about.
but with the burma update, developers introduced a new system of colors for certain tunics.
to my knowledge, only 4 tunics have this new color system.

itā€™s sort of a game changer because developers can now add thousants several different versions of the same tunic with different colors opposed as having to make 1000 textures for each ( like it was up to this point ). in short words, more items of different color, for less space occupied on your hardrive. ( since, textures could take up to 12 mbs. it may not seem alot, but considering that enlisted has 500+ clothing. and way easier to do than having to open photoshop orā€¦ whatever they use to create and change new items. itā€™s a win win for everyone

more in detail for the averange player

but long story short, this new system allows to us ( and them ) to change color of tabs, ranks, and most details to make historical accurate uniforms.

as for the game, it was used on the feldgendarmerie tunics. to include most biomes while addding few choices available for the player:

and here is a demostrantion of what it can be done with:

PanzerGrenadier tunic:

Medical tunic:

and well, potentially, you can simply make any that you can think off from the officials ones:

Rework Reinhard Rust

Who is mir R.R ?

for those few who do not know who mister Rust is, he is that german at low br that goes around with no sleeves at all. usually at low br using mg 13s. and is an engineer that can use machineguns so to speak. especially seen in battle of the bulge and moscow.
he was/is part of a even squad that was only obtainable through halloween:

a 5 man engineer squad. the only different thing, is that this engineer can use machineguns.
( not sure if can be obtained through silver crates. )

and last but not least, kinda the other reason why i made this suggestion to begin with, change his appearance.
end of the story.

he is not " funny ", not realistic, nothing.
and itā€™s relatively easy to do as well.

such a shame a new face was made to then just be covered with a gas mask.

hence, make his gasmask and ripped off tunic only appear in zombies modes.
because it makes 0 sense as he is not an anti tank trooper using the wannabe panzershrek, nor a flame trooper. where historically ( yesā€¦ i know. HA in enlisted never existed. but can we at least keep it for cosmetics? ) were given to. his ripped off tunic looks out of place in half campaignsā€¦ soā€¦ you know.

plain and simple. the profile is already made, no need to change it. but on the base game, you can, i can and should change his clothing.

here is an example of how this soldier SHOULD look like:

b86ec42b6e79868169bf8e92055cae81--ww-photos-ww-pictures

( granted, those are made through the editor. and some of the selection arenā€™t present. but just to show that an unique character can be cool and realistic. opposed as out of place, and a complete joke )

and in game, it wouldnā€™t ( nor should) be any different:

Dak presets

Summer / Autumn Presets

Winter Presets

but the possibilities are endless.
and as explained, just few examples.
but i donā€™t care if we canā€™t customize the rust guy forā€¦ reasons. at least, make it have consistent presets. while having the ability to customize the other soldiers.

itā€™s kinda not rocket science.

Most of all, they should remove the horrible restriction that makes not possible to change clothes on Halloween soldiers.

Most of them have mismatched uniforms in at least one preset.
Before they put that restriction in, I could fix that easily by buying a matching pants to go with their special torsos. Which isnā€™t possible now.

Darkflow shouldā€™ve hire you for working in this department. Not saying that currently are bad but the outfit variation is severely lacking and the progress of implementing it is very slow. We couldā€™ve get these cool uniforms much sooner than what we currently got.

Dark Flow just needs to have an entire update dedicated to squaring away all cosmetics.

We are drip-fed minor changes with every update at a rate where any major noticeable differences wonā€™t be felt until 2026. Itā€™s actually annoying and it screams incompetence.

What are you guys waiting for? Just get it done. Get your ducks in a row!

And yes, cosmetics are agreeably on the low priority list. However theyā€™re so unbelievably inconsistent and properly outrageous in their asking price. Making all options viable for all squads and switching to silver would go a long way in building consumer trust.

Before I understood ā€œappearance change ordersā€, I recall being absolutely dumbfounded at the potential cost of outfitting a single squad. And I canā€™t help but wonder how many new players immediately ditch Enlisted after seeing what we all have seen and endured. Overt greed has the potential to cause some possible consumers to flee in disgust.

Anyways, needed to rant but yeah. Not only should Mr Rustā€™s cosmetics be reexamined but all cosmetic functionality.

Whoever works in customization for df right now should be fired. Japanese still have 0 tan uniforms and only handful of german squads gets grey uniforms while rest are brown, green or blue. Most of the default uniforms are mismatched so you have to spend appreance orders to change them

darkflow just needs to turn back on customization on those unique soldiers, such a stupid change that pleased literally nobody

you are FORCED to wear samurai armor and you are FORCED to wear ripped rags to stalingrad

cheers for the kind words.

i would be off for hiring :smirk:

but truth be told, i donā€™t have much time to be fully dedicated to make tunics, presets, and look more deeply into cosmetics than what i already have done ( granted, i did somewhat studied cosmetics since the editor got introduced ).

however, i would settle for reaching a weekly quota to send or offer already some of my finest soldiers. and make more in my off time if it means to improve the mess that customization is.
not sure they would be up for that.

but iā€™m going on a little tagent. all to say ( and respond ):

yes. without a shadow doubt.
which i already somewhat covered in the past, and to this day itā€™s one of the most liked thread of mine:

but as explained, in this thread, iā€™m try to address two issues at once.

first, the introduction for the future of a short sleeve m40. and while we are at it because it involves a specific squad/soldier, fix the unrealistic appearance of RR.

this thread is just about that.

because as explained by Cms and helpers, feedbacks only gets considered if itā€™s simple about a one thing.

lists donā€™t work because as they tell us, " people could agree on one thing, but not the other ".
( whateverā€¦ that means )

and technically iā€™m on the brink of doing just that.
but iā€™d recon itā€™s straight foward as both are tied somewhat together.

so true. i personally hate k98 pouches with mg 13s pouches.

likeā€¦ assistant carrier of the team i can understand if. but everyone becomes one?

even more weird at latter stages of the war were mg 13s would be mostly phased out. and not widely common.

yet all you get, are 6 tunics with all sort of different pouches.

ultimately yes.

that should be a thing too.

however, the issue was the various items being lost/removed once changed.
( because of DF spaghetti code if i have to guessā€¦ but i digress )

but my main concern was to make something cool out of this new uniform. aka, make it with short sleeves. and then introduce it in the base game later on with the whole customization rework.

itā€™s incredible how they can do cool thing, yet lose them selves in a glass of water so to speak.

Most likely it would still be more time than the amount of time they spend on customization in DF.

Yes, exactly this :point_up_2:

Oh muh God those outfits you made R.R look amazing

My goodness. Jun ā€˜22. Itā€™s very disheartening that this was brought up a while ago and nothing close to this has been implemented.

Yes, the way cosmetics currently work is not terrible but it could be incredible! The stars are the limit however Dark Flow seems content with the tree tops. If the attention to detail seen in your suggestion were acted upon, the aesthetical aspect of Enlisted would be elevated to the sky.

The one that came up with this idea and the one that gave green light to it, should be fired in the spot, and i am not even gonna dignify the daemon shitty tank bringing it into discussion.

PS: Love the uniforms, they look so much better than what we got.
