Revision of rifle squad upgrade path

It shouldn’t be a choice between a machine gunner and assaulter since there is always a machine gunner in every rifle squad and the squad leader always has an SMG (except Japan I guess?).

SUGGESTION #1

With that, in my 1st suggestion I suggest to revise the upgrade path of the rifle squad by switching the position of the sniper and assaulter. In this way, players have the option to bring both an assaulter (which acts as the squad leader) and a machine gunner. I don’t see having a sniper in a 9-men rifle squad as important.

In my 2nd and 3rd suggestion, there will be an option for players to bring 2 assaulters which act as the squad leader and deputy squad leader.

SUGGESTION #2

In this alternative suggestion, I switched the position of the sniper and assaulter but also replaced one radio operator win an assaulter. I see no reason to bring two radio operators. Just bring a radio squad and you don’t have to wait 3 minutes.

SUGGESTION #3

Alright, final suggestion. I switched the sniper and assaulter, and also added another branch for the second assaulter.

I’d like to be able to put 2 assaulters and an engineer in a rifle squad. However, I feel select fire rifles should be nerfed to become available for a suggested class called the “automatic riflemen”. This class could use low capacity lmg’s too like the BAR, Johnson and foreign license variants of the BAR. And of course at br5 they could use the SF rifles like t20, fg42, etc. riflemen would be able to get 2(or also get a 3rd by sacrificing a specialist) as other squads would only be allowed to get 1.

Maybe eventually I’d like all squad types to be directly based on how they were organized in real life during the war

Slight correction. I should have included the engineer in the image. The engineer will act as the machine gunner assistant or ammo carrier. After all he can make ammo boxes.

Rejected this is clearly power creep there is a reason why mg and assaulters are in the same upgrade slot, to prevent more full automatics in a nine mane squad, if you want more dakka make a special squad or sacrifice a man bringing the squad from 9 to 8 soldiers.

It’s like the same meta players who want a fifth assaulters in a seven man assault squad stop trying to power creep the game

We can reach a compromise with my 1st suggestion: x1 SMG, x1 MG, x7 bolties. Yes, SMGs and MGs are both auto weapons but they have very different characteristics. It’s an option after all – option to add 1 assaulter. Besides, there’s actually one rifle squad that has this upgrade path:

x1 SMG (medic), x1 MG, x7 bolties
(not a fan of making the medic as the squad leader tho)

Also, I don’t see why there’s a power creep here. Some dude out there probably has this loadout for all his rifle squads: (making them essentially all assaulters)

Let’s use Germany as an example and evaluate the best possible loadouts in each BR with my 1st suggestion:

BR2
x1 Beretta M38/42, x1 ZB-26, x7 Kar98k

BR3
x1 Beretta M38 (40), x1 MG 34, x7 Gewehr 41 or x7 Kar98k w/ grenade

BR4
x1 Kiraly 39M, x1 MG 42, x7 Gewehr 43

BR5
x1 STG 44, x1 MG 42 100, x7 FG 42 II

Only 2 out of 9 men have full auto weapons (except in BR 5) hence, most of the firepower still comes from the 7 rifles.

thats my point
br 1 does not allow mgs
b 2-4 youre ‘giving up’ 2 semi auto for 2 smg a straight upgrade in fire power
now if you want 2 smgs and 1 mg you can have 5 rifle for 8 men getting one more smg instead of two rifles
which adding one more instead of two more smgs is more then fair assaulter squads are crazy powerful 7 men with four smgs and one mg
so a free smg upgrade or two simply for one less squad member
if anything assault squads could stand to drop a mg they are way op

Honestly love the idea.

This change wouldn’t just be a boon to the people wanting to recreate historicaly accurate squads for Germany, the British infantry platoon is almost identical to the German one:

I have actually considered making a post about this very idea myself, just swaping around the specialist a little. So, naturally, I support! :+1:

funny 9 out of 10 times people bring up history to down tier a weapon or buff a weapon almost never to do the opposite, adding two smgs to a rifleman squad is a straight up buff. a buff to far the British historical squad is a more reasonable buff. stop asking for oops all assaulter maps are to small for the range difference of smgs and rifles to allow them to fight one on one.

How about this…

Suggestion #4

There is this legacy rifle squad from Stalingrad (pre-merge) that has this upgrade path that allows you to bring a medic and a machine gunner and the good news is that it’s already in the game. I suggest to implement this upgrade path to all Rifleman I squads then change the medic option to assaulter for Rifleman II and III squads.

:ballot_box_with_check: It’s already in the game (but only in this specific legacy squad :frowning: )
:ballot_box_with_check: Historical crackheads like me will be happy
:ballot_box_with_check: You just made a proper rifle squad for a ‘squad-based’ MMO game! :raised_hands:
:ballot_box_with_check: MGs not available in BR I? No problem! Just pick the AT gunner instead
:ballot_box_with_check: Power creep? I don’t see adding an option to add one dude that can carry a small caliber automatic weapon will be a power creep while the rest of his squad use bolties. (except the MGunner of course)
