Revamping the Japanese Tech Tree

The Japanese tech tree suffers from two main problems: Lack of equipment and bad placement of weapons in battle ratings, so I decided to rework the Japanese tech tree by adding more content.

I’ve also moved the items to their proper sections corresponding to their BR (for example, the Chi-Nu which is BR3 researched in BR4, but now will be researched in BR3)

New items will be labeled yellow (hopefully).

BR1

Changes:

  • Added a Hanyang 88 rifle, a rifle that was used by Chinese forces and the Collaborationist Chinese Army who worked with the Japanese.
  • Added a Ha-Go with flamethrower, a counterpart to the M3 Stuart with flamethrower.
  • Added a Te-Ke (which should be labeled yellow but isn’t) to fill up the tech tree a bit more.
  • Added a Type 24 rifle premium engineer squad. The rifle is also known as the Chiang Kai-Shek rifle which was based off the Kar98k. This squad be of the Collaborationist Chinese Army and have chinese voice lines.
  • Added an Arisaka Type 44 carbine premium rifleman squad, which was designed for cavalry.

BR2

Changes:

  • Foldered the Type 99 rifle (late) and Type 99 rifle (early)
  • Reduced the Type Otsu rifle’s BR to 2 (as a BR3 main I think Type Hei is still better)
  • Swapped the location of the Type 4 rocket launcher and Type 5 rocket launcher (because Type 5 is better in every way and there is no point in using Type 4 except for the sights. This gives players a small incentive to use the Type 4.)
  • Reduced B5N2’s BR to 2 (as a BR3 main I think D3A1 is better due to the B5N2’s lack of frontal machine guns.)
  • Added a Ki-51 Attacker plane which has better flying characteristics and frontal machine guns compared to the B5N2, but weaker bombload
  • Added an A7M2, with better flying characteristics than the A6M2, but no bombload
  • Added an A6M2-N as a fighter pilot premium squad, which is basically a zero if it was a sea plane.

BR3

Changes:

  • Reduced the Type 4 rifle’s BR to 3 (if you nerf the damage to the same as the SVT-38 and Gewehr-41, it should be balanced, especially due to the fact it has dual clip reloads)
  • Added a Type Hei sniper rifle to BR3 with 10 rounds (people said you could mount a scope on it so I trust them). This will also unlock a sniper 3 squad.
  • Increased the Type 100 SMG (late)'s BR to 4 (Japan wasn’t known for its SMGs, so I felt it was more realistic to move it up a tier. Also the SIG 1920 is still pretty good as a BR3 weapon. I also felt that Japan would be extremely powerful if these changes were implemented so some drawbacks had to be made.)
  • Added a Type 98 mortar as a counterpart to the USSR’s RM-40
  • Added a Type 1 Ho-Ki, as a second tech tree APC.
  • Added a Type 4 90 mm rocket launcher, which is an upgrade from the BR2 rocket launchers.
  • Switched the order of unlocking the tanks since there was no point in using the Na-To
  • Added a B5N1 attacker plane (which should be labeled yellow but isn’t) which is the same as the B5N2, except with frontal machine guns.
  • Added a A6M5 fighter plane which should be labeled yellow but isn’t) which is a slight upgrade from the A6M2 in flying characteristics.
  • Added a Ki-32 attacker plane with one 1000lb bomb
  • Added a Ho-Ni II premium tanker squad, as a counterpart to the Dicker Max.

BR4

Changes:

  • Added a ZH-29, which were captured from Chinese forces fighting against the Japanese. The ZH-29 inspired the creation of the Otsu rifle.
  • Added a Ki-43-IIb fighter plane with two 250kg bombs as a BR4 counterpart to the P-51D-5 except with better flying characteristics
  • Added a Type 95 Ji-Ro premium tanker squad as a BR4 “Ho-Ri”
  • Added a Type 100 SMG (late) universal paratrooper squad
  • Increased the Tokyo Arsenal’s BR to 5 to give the other BR4 SMGs a chance to be used.(shouldn’t affect people too much since ~95% who play this gun play BR5 anyway and the Type 100 SMG is still very powerful)

BR5

Changes:

  • Added a Type 2 SMG (1934) as an “assault rifle” (which shoots 6.5 mm rifle bullets) as a counterpart to the Fedorov Avtomat.
  • Added a Type 97 mortar which was the standard issue infantry mortar for Japan. It used 81mm mortars. It is the counterpart for the BM-41 and Kz 8cm GrW 42.
  • Added a Ki-100-I-Ko as a fighter plane with two 250 kg bombs
  • Added an N1K1-J as a fighter plane with two 250 kg bombs
  • Added a Ki-102 Otsu as an attacker plane with two 250 kg bombs
  • Added an Army Type 98 MG machine gun premium squad which is based off the German MG15
  • Also for some reason J2M3 which is already in-game is missing in my graphic so please note that

There were a lot of other premium squads or gold weapons I wanted to introduce but this suggestion is already long enough.

And I’ve also probably made plenty of historical inaccuracies so please correct me

Thank you for your post.

I like the ideas here and agree.

Though I wouldve hoped wed get proper Chinese squads as a part of either USA or USSR faction OR a new Chinese faction.

the type 2 1934 DID NOT fire rifle bullets, it shot an intermediate 6.5x30 cartridge, it would be something closer to the m2 carbine

i think you need to put more contents in BR IV, allied players get II-V mm partially because the lack of japan BR IV contents

I appreciate the effort but this has some really bad suggestions with even worse BR placements. It’s not all bad tho!

BR I

Good: Ha-Go Flame thrower, Ki-27 Otsu

Bad: Hangyang Type 88(bloat), Te-Ke, just a worse Ha-Go, no MGs and even worse armor. I suggest replacing the Te-Ke with the Type 92 Jyu Sokosha a proper tankette armed with a heavy machine gun in the hull, a machine gun in the turret, and a pintle mounted machine gun on top.

pictures of the Type 92

BR II

Good: Foldered Type 99s, Ki-51(slept on option for low BR CAS), and A6M2-N

Bad: A7M2 should be BR IV

BR III

Good: Type 98 Mortar, Type 4 90mm, and Ho-Ni II

Bad: Ki-32 is a fine addition but it should be at BR I. Ho-Ni II should be BR II

BR IV

Good: There is a Ki-43-II-Otsu

Bad: It’s over-tiered. Should be BR III. D4Y1 should be BR II. Zh-29 its just copy paste bloat. Ji-Ro belongs at BR III just like the Dicker Max.
Also no B7A2 :frowning:

BR V

Good: Ki-100, Type 97 Mortar and 6.5 Type 2

Bad: Ki-102 Otsu should be at BR III, also No P1Y1 :frowning:

Exactly! BR IV could have more Semi Autos in it. Like a long Type Ko rifle and a Sniper Type Ko. BR IV could also have scoped Type 99 LMG. Tokyo SMG shouldve stayed there in BR IV.

Ho-Ri 2 prototype as premium or event and normal ho-ri 2 as tech option :3

Wouldn’t it make more sense for the Type 44 carbine to be tech tree instead of the Hanyang 88 rifle, since it’s Japanese?

The Type 44 is a favorite of imperial Japanese enthusiasts. It should be in the TT

Hangyang rifle doesn’t need to be in the tech tree when you have the Type 46 rifle, Type 47, Type 46/66 rifle, Type 47/66 carbine, and Type 66 rifle.

Very fair point, but then it would be good to get a Chinese weapon because otherwise we wont get any. It’s always good getting unique but realistic weapons (as opposed all these BS prototypes)

agree with everything you said but the Tokyo SMG lol, it’s a cancer gun that should be in BR V

Fair enough. IMO it could be either/or
