Resolving the BR and Campaign Map conflict

I have a suggestion which I feel will resolve the conflict between the new Battle Ranking system (which has its merits and faults) with the previous Campaign system (which had its own merits and faults)

Thankfully, the weaknesses of the BR system are the strengths of the Campaign system and vice versa. A careful combining of the systems would generate a superior experience.

Here is how I think this can be accomplished:

  1. Each player should be able to set a roster per Campaign
  2. Each Campaign roster can be BR locked at DF’s discretion (e.g. prohibiting BR4 and BR5 in Tunisia/Mediterranean)
  3. At time of matchmaking, default behavior is that player does not have a choice of which campaign they will be matched into
  4. Add Golden Campaign Priority tickets as scattered event prizes and season rank prizes.
  5. Campaign Priority ticket allows player to lock in which campaign they wish to play in for a specified number of battles

If there is any intention (which I hope there is) to ever reorganize and expand the Campaigns to add Sicily, Italy, and Crete to a Mediterranean campaign or Burma, Malaya, 1939 Mongolia or 1945 Mongolia to the East Asian campaign, there will need to be a different squad roster management system much better than the one we currently have based on switching. A more robust roster management system will also give a stable purpose behind having so many squads without having them out of sight, out of mind as well as help lay out the enormous scale of the Second World War to those who are unfamiliar.

Giving an in-game control for map priority also seems to be the best way to accomplish it for people who want it.

Now it may just be me and my general lack of care, but I don’t see the point nor worth of implementing this system other than needlessly complicating MM

Next logical step would be creating subfaction queue so British squads show up less Pacific.

If they added Malay or Burmese Japanese offensives to the Pacific campaign, there would be plenty of use of Commonwealth troops

General point: you don’t get to say “I’m playing BR5” and only play BR5 rounds or “I’m playing BR2” and only playing BR2 rounds.
Your control would be to say:
If I get matched into Normandy or the Ardennes, this is my lineup.
If I get matched in the Mediterranean, this is my lineup.
If I get matched into the Pacific, this is my lineup.

then the matching would be completely out of your hands. There might still be two matching queues behind the server, but you don’t get to say which one you will be in unless you have the Gold Map Priority tickets.

The intention is a better organized squad management system which uses the BR system to restrict which weapons are available to a given campaign area and the Campaign system to expand the game’s location offerings without diluting the game while also providing an earned mechanism for players who REALLY want to play Normandy or who REALLY want to play Pacific to bypass the normal matching rules in a controlled and orderly fashion.

So I wouldn’t even get to choose my loadout? It would be chosen for me based on what map I was thrown into? Nah I’m good

No. You would choose your entire loadout and you’d have one per campaign. Where did you get the idea from reading my comment that your loadout wouldn’t be chosen by you?

This part

You would set a lineup that you would want to use in Normandy
You would set another lineup to use in Mediterranean
You would set yet another lineup to use in the Pacific.

Then when matchmaking occurs, you don’t get to choose a battle rank to play at. You get matched and if you are matched in a Pacific battle, you’ll use the lineup you have set for Pacific battles.

The fundamental difference is that you wouldn’t set one roster; you’d set one per theater.

Although I didnt mention it in my original post, I would also personally like it if you could only assign each of your units to one theater at a time. That would be a minor consideration to increase the value of the “4th, 5th, 6th” best squads in your Reserve

That’s just extra work. All of my loadouts would remain the exact same with 0 payout. I’m good

If you were allowed to deploy each squad to only one theater at a time, there would be different loadouts by necessity.

Yeah you’re still just digging a deeper hole for this idea

So not only do I have to make a whole loudout for each independent theater instead of just using my basic one for all of them, but I also have to buy enough equipment to fully deck out all of these squads several times over. Not to mention more than doubling that on top of itself for making a BR III and BR V which is just even MORE expensive to do

Yeah nah, I’m good

They’d have to add more squads into the mix to make it work, but it would do several things:

  1. your paratrooper squad would be available for any campaign but they’d only be eligible in one location at a time. So paratrooper concentration would go down in the maps designed before paratroopers were added, at least temporarily
  2. creates room for a repeat of the Event squads for the Steam people while still adding value to existing player base. If you earned the Event squad again, you’d get to send one to one theater and the other to another
  3. get squads out of Reserve and make them more useful. I tend to play new squads only long enough to max the soldier class they control then they get benched forever and I send my guys to another squad. I don’t like that experience and I think that should be changed up a little bit
  4. create room for expanded campaigns within the game, such as turning the “Tunisian” campaign into the Mediterranean Theater.
  5. Present a more realistic approximated view of the theaters of the war rather than having your same 3 squads rolling around the entire globe
  6. Give players who have maxed their roster something to do
  7. Give maxed “Ones” and “Twos” of a class some useful purpose after unlocking the “Threes” and “Fours.” For example, I have a couple maxed Assaulter 1s from Normandy that are just antiques sitting on the shelf since the Merge. If I had to fill multiple rosters, they’d definitely find a spot, but since I only have one roster at all, they’re always behind my Assaulter 3s.

I’m not sure why people seem to be so hung up on costs of things. If you’re concerned with being maxed “NOW! NOW! NOW!” then buy a premium squad. I want a deeper squad management system. This is okay but it could be better.

I got my stuff set up the way I want them to. Don’t want to have to go back and screw with my mothball squads. Besides, I like leaving them as they are
