When there is interior damage (such as the breech, turret ring [maybe], engine, transmission, etc.) the crew should not have to go outside to repair it (it makes no sense: repair the breech from outside the tank??). When there is interior damage, the game could give you an option (press T to repair tank etc), and you can start repairing the tank. This will incapacitate all crew members as they are busy with repairs. Same goes for fires.
Also, repair times should be longer in general, and they should vary depending on damage (optics repair faster than tracks etc.)
Thats why repair times should be longer for everything, and the entire crew is incapacitated. Instead of repairing the entire tank in 10 seconds, it should take around a minute. Maybe even longer.
also 90% of the stuff you “repair” in this game would result in a tank being abandoned in battle or retreated from the fight so take the crutch of survivability you already have and walk it off champ."
Turret ring damaged? gtfo or drive it back to friendly lines
Honestly having a forward repair center (that can’t be spawn camped or whatever) could be cool only if they completely rework how vehicles are used. As of right now they can be endlessly spammed with no consequences.
If there was a limit or soft caps on how often tanks could deploy you could incentivize returning to a repair center.
Likewise you could add a combat vehicle recovery squad to the game and their whole job would be to salvage wrecks from the battlefield before they are completely destroyed by the enemy.
Again I don’t see any of this coming to fruition due to the current pace of the game and how disposable and limitless tanks currently are, which is unfortunate because it all leads to a complete lacking in gravitas.
there’s no real space to do real repair work inside a tank, BUT, i’d be all for being able to extinguish the tank from inside, since that makes sense. The fire is already inside the tank, you should be able to spray it down.
Not sure if switch-enabled fire extinguishers were a thing yet but I doubt it.
Anyway I’m all for having to leave the tank to repair. Makes tank combat much more sensible because crippling hits are far more relevant like they should be.
wasnt. only normal fire extinguishers on brackets outside of vehicles and inside.
some tools on a wooden box would be also present and starter pulley and huge wrenches to tension the tracks / metal cables to pull another vehicle/repair a track.
.
ontopic:
the repairs should be a risk to the tanker , so all repairs should be outside, and as a guy that play tanks alot, should take more time to perform.
You can’t repair engine and transmission and most other things from the inside. It’s very similar to a car. Tanks (barring the very early ones) also have a separate engine compartment, that can only be accessed from the outside.
The way repairs currently work in the game is already a massive abstraction in favour of tank players. Most repairs couldn’t even be done in the field.
