Remove the squad soldier minimum

One of my major frustrations with squad management in Enlisted is that I have to have “filler” soldiers in every campaign so I can fill squads I am not using. I understand that the devs want to encourage players to use the squad mechanics by forcing you to have at least 3 or 4 squad members, but at least make it to where squads I am not using can be empty. Being able to fully empty squads would also be handy for organizational reasons, I would be able to get a better look at all the soldiers I have available and do some re-organizing.

The other benefit of this change would be that new players would be less likely to waste their precious silver orders filling their unused squads with valuable equipment.

I lost some gold weapons for months because I forgot to unequip a squad that used them, then even forgot I had them.

That would also help with that.

Do note that another reason there is a squad minimum is to stop players from being able to cycle squads too quickly, and get right back to their most preferred squad. This is important because otherwise you would see players using non-stop flamers, mortars, aircraft, tanks, whatever it might be. Having the fillers either forces the player to kill off more of their own soldiers, or forces players that rush in to bring some backup to at least potentially do some additional damage.

Summed up, its to avoid spam.

Very good point, that’s very true. It seems that removing the minimum squad soldier limit may not be the best idea, but I would still like to be able to empty squads I am not using. My main point is that I want to remove all the soldiers for organizational reasons. I still think it could be possible to allow the player to fully empty equipped squads temporarily, prompting the player to fill them again before the start button can be pressed.

I could get behind that. I just usually fill them to the minimum with dinky riflemen that have been stripped of gear. Though the only riflemen I keep are those with 5 points in all 3 categories at lvl1. Doing it the way I do keeps my reserves clean and organized.

And it worked out very well lol

YES YES and YEEEES!!!
And this is very obvious for Free to play players, who just have mere 4 slots to play around with.

I guess the devs can alleviate the frustration by incentivizing to fill all the squads unlocked to the brim, by providing a small experience bonus.
Like, You get 1 % extra exp for each soldier assigned to the squad that is not in combat.
Although, this may be too much, so, 0.5 or less can be considered.
Equipment may also be made to provide additional bonus to exp earning.

I appreciate your enthusiasm for the idea and I agree that new players have a lot to gain from this. But I am a little confused by your response. I don’t see why the devs would incentivize fully equipping squads you aren’t using. The goal is to be able to fully empty squads, not fill unused ones with more stuff. I am not sure if it would be a good idea to encourage players to spend silver orders on soldiers/gear they aren’t using. However I am interested in what your reasoning is, would you mind further explaining your idea?

Well, my line of thinking is - if I am forced to leave some soldiers in the squads that I unlocked, why not make me have a benefit of doing this?
It could work a bit like an investment - You spend silver orders for troops and equipment, and in return, you get experience bonus! It’s like capitalism.

Otherwise, if we won’t be getting any incentive to do so, then yeah - let the squads be left empty, and let us save the silver orders for when we really need them.

Interesting, that makes more sense now. I am not sure if the devs would ever consider something like this, but maybe they would be more inclined to listen if you suggested a different reward other than exp. You could phrase it like you are “completing squads”. If you fill the assaulter 1 squad with assaulter 1s and other soldier classes you make some progress towards unlocking a new squad slot or cosmetic or something. Maybe there could be a progress bar somewhere that has rewards based on how many squads you “complete” and stay “completed”. Maybe they could claim you are “army building” or something, creating many well-rounded squads instead of only a few. Maybe down the line if the devs really encouraged completing squads, they could have an event where you go into games with a random selection of squads that you have unlocked.

Personally, Idk if something like this could work but it’s an interesting idea and fun to examine. Thanks for further explaining it.

LMAO I have literally the same issue. With 6 campaigns and various twitch drop elements or whatsoever I lost clue where I put them and where we actually had drops, like pistols and stuff.

Why in the world would you NOT use gold order weapons cards.

That’s dumber, when there’s beautiful things like kurz, brammit, ppd 97 ammo which I forgot the name…

Why bypass those? You got gold orders (plenty) for free

That’s why I strip a level 1 soldier of all he’s got and put them in a no longer used squad.

Yup, me too.

Thats what most people do, but I don’t think you should have to do that. Being able to just empty the squads would be simpler and wouldn’t require so many 1 star riflemen to fill them up.
