I’m actually really surprised that this wasn’t addressed shortly after the introduction of smoke launchers and smoke shells for tanks, but it seems to have been overlooked for long enough.
When aiming your tank through smoke at another tank, the colored indicator that tells if a shell will correctly penetrate or not still appears, basically letting you see right through the smoke to kill them. This needs to be removed. Otherwise, trying to use the smoke to actually protect yourself or push the enemy with a smoked flank is absolutely pointless.
I just personal think that knowing the weak spot of enemy tanks and use that knowledge to defeat the tank is more rewarding than being put on training wheels, but this is just my personal opinion that not everyone will agree with
Requiring players to know the exact armor layout of multiple tanks would make it too difficult and intensive. Perhaps for a “hardcore” mode that would be ok, but not for standard.
While some might be ok with it, it would likely force a lot less people to use tanks overall, or at the very least far less effectively. There is already enough issue with players sitting in the back with them, I don’t think adding another layer of difficulty to them is the right step to take.
My hope with making them more viable when using smoke is that it encourages players to push forward with them, rather than cower in the back.
I think its important for this system to remain since most players would be forced to learn way too much about every single tanks armor. Personally i wouldn’t have any problem if this happened since iv been a war thunder tank player since years ago but people who mostly play infantry will find it annoying.
To let players know if the shell will be capable of punching through the armor at all. It still doesn’t tell you where the critical parts are, so you could potentially fire shells that punch clean through with no effect. It’s especially helpful when going up against a very heavily armored tank with a much smaller tank, though its helped me a lot overall.
As I just said above, just because you can see it will punch through, doesn’t mean it will strike something critical. That part you still need to learn or pay attention to in the upper right.
Because if you want a mil-sim game, there are other games with that. This game is so extensive and is about more than just tanks (if thats what you are looking for, go check out Warthunder or World of Tanks). Meaning that forcing players to focus on that one sole aspect of the game greatly detracts from the other parts of the game.
