As of late ive been noticing a LOT of players running around and intentionally throwing det packs into fortifications or deconstructing other players’ engineer placements for no reason, and many of these players either ignore you completely or are extremely toxic when you confront them.
I think the ability to deconstruct ANY allied placement needs to be removed, im tired of spending minutes of a battle building a fortified position only for someone to casually toss a det pack or run around deconning the entire thing, destroying it in literal seconds what took me minutes to build.
It’s incredibly frustrating levelling engineers as is, and i always bring one along in all my squads to build rallies, mobile ammo and to fortify positions (many times, on the flank or behind enemy lines), and when players are acting this way it makes me want to not bring engineers at all, potentially crippling my teams during games, and at the very least forcing me to just not support them because of one guy who wants to ruin the fun. And before anyone says it, you cant “just report lolololol” them, because we cant see allied name badges, which means you rely entirely on them responding to you in chat, and who knows if thats really them or just someone who likes to do a little trolling on frustrated chatters. Regardless, this is something else i think should be addressed, if you ADS at an ally after 1.5 or 2 seconds it should pop their name badge up, which would at least allow us to report this behavior.
I would imagine that this would be a rather complicated issue. Often times fortifications may really mess with the AI squad mates or make it really inconvenient for defenders to reinforce the point when they respawn. Rally points in certain positions can also really mess with the AI, attic rally points are especially bad. It is a rather frustrating situation to be in the thick of things in the midst of an enemy assault on a control point, die and find out that the rest of your squad are way back at the rally point because they could not figure out how to leave an attic or climb over some sand bags or out a window. I have seen many buildups of AI soldiers in rooms with questionably placed rally points.
This is all just the observations of someone who has been playing for a couple months however.
while thats true, and players can use RPs to trap you, its also a real tactic, hiding spawn points like that for small squads to use and wreak havoc behind enemy lines. Not everyone enjoys taking 9 soldiers and rushing headfirst into the action and its pretty unfair to punish the players who are being creative. If you spawn on that RP more than once, thats just on you.
But that doesnt mean people should be able to tear down a defensive wall for no reason; i see FAR more players tearing things apart for no reason or being generally anti-engineer than i do players using sandbags and wire to trap and kill AI or RPs to troll.
Sometimes you need to dismantle some allied buildings (i.e like sandbags who are trapping bots near a spawn, awfully-placed barbed wire that is preventing your team from reaching the point you have to defend, etc.), so removing that would allow for exploits/griefing by other players that are often detrimental to the team. You already can’t dismantle allied rally points, even if they are utter garbage.
Allied explosions destroying buildings from your own team is debatable, though I’d personally prefer them to be able to do so, just like it currently is.
no! it must always be possible to throw them down why? as said by @118018337 there are too many pranksters around who use engineers to ruin games example would you like to spawn with your squad on a roof of a building in berlin without being able to go down? answer no! and if you can’t destroy the rallypoint who prevents other players on your team from getting stuck in the same spot using the rallypoint
The times I need to destroy the barbwire inside the objective, around friendly rally points, in places the team uses to get to the objective, the list goes on and on. If I can not destroy those anymore that would destroy the game experience for a lot of people.
So far im seeing people who only experience a single remote, very isolated issue; that being trolls placing RPs in stupid locations, and they draw the conclusion that everyone has to suffer to solve this issue. I see a troll RP may, MAYBE once every 5-6 battles, and given the nature of these RPs they are rarely actually better than spawning on the normal spawns anyways, in fact more often than not the troll RPs are so far out of your way youd only spawn on them if you knew it was a troll or wanted to spend 15 minutes in a running simulator to flank and get 2 extra kills than you would have just being smart on the normal playing field.
The problem is, this is a one time issue; If you spawn on the RP you still spawn on it, theres no take backs. If you spawn on it a second, third and fourth time, thats just your fault; you knew it was a bad spawn and still did it. This doesnt justify punishing an entire group of players (engineers) for this one isolated issue; why would i bother building sandbags or barbed wire to close off entrances to a cap point if you just blow them to pieces because its a minor inconvenience when you choose to rush the enemy spawn and not defend the cap? Why should players be globally punished based on the actions of what seems to be about 5% of the player base, hell lets say 10% for giggles, when this 10% can easily be ignored? theres no cap to RPs, so just build your own if you hate someone else’s so much. I myself have done sneaky RPs for a high risk high reward flanking spawn only to be denied because a teammate destroyed the area out of rage that it wasnt a 5 IQ cut and dry in the open RP where he could easily rush in and squad wipe himself in 5 seconds flat.
Answer me why i deserve to suffer based on that, instead of just simply stating im an idiot and that its a bad idea.
I regularly find people placing sandbags around rallypoints by blocking bots that no longer know what to do or putting barbed wire without thinking about where to put it damaging their allies so for you I would have to waste a whole squad or time because I cannot destroy the buildings?
please read my past comments, your argument is that a troll gets you one time, so you punish an entire class of soldier even though you’ll still be trolled regardless.
Im not building sandcastles around my RPs, im building defensive positions in chokepoints and blocking entrances to caps. If someone is going to have the ability to decon my buildings as fast as i can build them, then why would i bother supporting my team for the rest of the battle? I have intentionally ignored calls for ammo and RPs simply because my forts get deconned by some troll.
You argue the solution encourages trolling, i argue that the trolling you see is a very minute minority i rarely EVER come across, and trolls are encouraged by allowing them to intentionally sabotage friendly engineers without repercussion
besides, if devs add the ability for bots to recognize and avoid barbed wire/mount sandbags, this entire “BUT MUH AI SQUIRD” is entirely a moot point, which has already been confirmed to be on the todo list afaik
