I was curious of everybody’s first impressions on the A.I Improvements that came with the recent update. I came up with these 3 questions to start the conversation. I also wanted to use this post to thank the developers for listening to its user base and taking action to address the issue.
1.Has the AI ‘actually’’ improved
2. In what ways has this improvement effected your gameplay
3. Is this a noticable difference/improvement from the original A.I
they are more deadlier at close range, and… are technically harder to shoot because they now walk sideways to dodge bullets and retaliate.
but the biggest problem that remains, is that when AI are getting shot at, they just stand still for a couple of seconds which often proves to be fatal for them.
immersion breaking as well considering that you are shooting at them, and they are so kind to stop for no reason.
legit, try to shoot to a group that is trying to get to the objective 100 meters away and they will stop after the first bullet in the middle of the road.
they are also unable to shoot when walking. do not provide suppressive fire for the other members of the squad when crossing, are unable to deal with threats inside houses and do not fire to rally points that are 5 feets from them.
beside that, they are somewhat of a less punching bag now.
still, lots of improvements to be made,
but it’s not all that bad.
It’s sad that when you get shot, and change to another member, they are most of the time looking in the wrong direction (like backwards, the side i was coming from), and not where the shots are coming from.
They are harder to tell apart from real players which is nice. I like how they try to take cover when hit and go prone or walk sideways when fighting enemies. I wish that AI would act based on their soldier class. Some examples:
Sniper AI would prefer to be far away probably 50-100 meters from the enemy. They would have improved accuracy but they would shoot slower
Mg AI would usually go prone and mount his weapon to give suppressive fire
Assaulter AI would be the first on the point and they would throw lots of grenades and move fast with the downside of bad accuracy
At gunner soldiers whole purpose would be to fight tanks. AI at gunners would locate and mark enemy tanks and apcs and also attempt to destroy them.
If you play some custom games with bots only you will definitely notice some positive changes, I only wish that AI coordinated with its squadmates, fire suppression and retaliation are the two most lacking features, otherwise they are surprisingly smart, they take cover when ordered to stay put, flank and build rally (AI squad), take cover from grenades, man MG nests, I even seen AI switch to its secondary weapon because it found VG1-5 better for CQC than G41.
You can also see AI switch to flamethrower at close range or AI squad use grenade and artillery.
While improvements are always welcome, the AI will never be as good as human players to keep casual players happy (they are here to shoot a few easy targets).
The main reason behind this post was to acknowledge the developers for listening to us about the troublesome AI and to start a conversation about it which will generate subject matter for the dvelopers also to then take into account for future updates
Pathfinding is still bad, I don’t think the anti-tank ai soldiers are shooting at tanks like they are supposed to. I have found recently that the AI loves to go prone, which is annoying. However the ai improvements have overall been pretty promising.
I keep forgetting about this feature,
as i prefer to hopefully, use/loose 1 toon, for a tank, and not set whole squad on it, and loose all/most of em.
Will try and remember to test this today
Also got a funny feeling bots are not taking positions on MG either.
well i found out that on some spots bots just want to do parkour. non stop climbing the walls/trenches and then jumping down. really annoying when you want to kill them…
in term of shooting theyre better on pathfinding … theyre 100% worse than before, they move slower,do not stay in place if u order them to do it as a group, they now aggro more wich this being enlisted is not something that u want to while moving from x to x and u prob can find more problems cause for the recent changes.honestly i rather have a reverse cuz i rather have my ia alive and on point than wandering on into enemy gunfire
1: I would say very noticeably. Im not saying they are great, just a great improvement compared to what they were before latest upgrade. They actually move and engage sometimes in a way that looks more natural and could be confused (sometimes) for a player.
2: Has had several beneifts for me:
The AI react and move more naturaly with turning, side strafing and shooting…funnily enough, I find this much easier to predict compared to the awkward microstopping and jolting AI used to do (not completely gone).
My AI Have been carrying out attack orders alot more effectively. Attack moving and actually killing. I have had a lot of success with the “attack objective” order.
My squads that are heavily geared and perked are quite effective (compared to before, Can be better).
Disguises (ever so slightly) who the real player is…double edged sword.
3: when you say orignal…how far back you mean? (I dont even remember the AI back at the beginning) keep the improvements coming
