Just my two cents worth, but DF can shit can the entire ranking system for all I care. You should get points on how you perform in the game, not based on your rank or even whether your team won or lost. It sucks when you play great, bust your ass to do what the game is actually trying to get you to do but end up losing because of shitty team mates and shitty bots. I think the ranking system is one reason why people desert as they don’t want the loss.
I mean once you are in officer ranks:
You can get 1 point for winning (only somewhat depends on you) and 1 extra point for getting a battle hero award (mostly depends on you)
You get -1 point for losing or quitting…but you also can get +1 point for battle hero award (mostly depends on you)
For overwhelming majority of matches I end up getting +2 for winning and 0 for losing - so my player score keeps climbing
So in theory your player rating (how many rank points you have) is pretty well linked to individual skill, even when you get kinda meh teams
The problem is…in reality the teams you get aren’t actually random because people can squad up and stack up a specific faction and then you get matches like these: (I’m semi-convinced it was TWO 3-stacks on enemy team: an obvious one (“clan” tags and quite possibly another one, just from how they played)
And even though it was a horrific stomp after they finally pushed us off the mid point…people who did things ended up getting battle awards and not losing their ranking points
It would work better if the sad excuse for matchmaker we currently have at least tried to balance the sides a little
