A tankette is a tracked armoured fighting vehicle that resembles a small tank, roughly the size of a car. It is mainly intended for light infantry support and scouting, Several countries built tankettes between the 1920s and 1940s, and some saw limited combat in the early phases of World War II. The vulnerability of their light armour, however, eventually led armies to abandon the concept with some exceptions such as the more modern German Wiesel (Weasel) series
the vehicle in question does not require more than two operators (driver, machine gunner) and its use is relegated to infantry support (exactly like the motorbike still used by the raider class)
with the upcoming update and the new tech tree in my opinion in the lower BRs we should aim for a greater use of light anti-infantry vehicles as both tanks and planes have low firepower and this type of vehicle can be incredibly efficient for push or defend position
for the balance don’t worry given their poor armor with the exception of the small arms all the other weapons including grenades can damage them and usually a shot from an anti-tank rifle can destroy them (without forgetting tanks and planes, tnt, expo etc… )
very H&G style, but 222s, 251s, 250s, m3s, m5s, etc i believe do have their place in riders.
which, i think would cost less to do.
about tanketess, i suppose it’s not… a bad idea for those who choses to do so, but i’d argue, riders need some upgrades and improvements.
which, i don’t think a car with an mg or a tankettes is one though.
they need a more substantial improvement…
gotta see what they will do. ( admitting that the ones mentioned in the road map will be a thing… and available for riders to begin with instead of being a class of it’s own
I had my mind on a new vehicle category, lighter vehicles for maps where tanks can be too destructive or maybe on future maps they would be too big, we already have some maps where its a nightmare to navigate with tanks.
to be fair, i took out my rider squad in berlin and despite the clutter, it’s not that bad despite being one of the campaign with smaller maps.
i believe it’s just a metal " issue " that people pulls out because they think maps are too small for vehicles when in reality, you can still use them relatively easy.
granted, the bike has more mobility and can get inside hallways / houses ( which it’s fun and the best part )
its manageable for sure, but still annoying to get stuck on flak88 in Berlin or get your path blocked by a destroyed tank on any bridge, but D-Day map is the most notorious for that.
Will be forwarded (as the rest of your suggestions). Quality stuff. Although I assume that this one might be already known to the devs.
Nonetheless: I’ll do it. I need more time though. I am currently not at home.
I disagree. I view that all that matters is the vehicle player is supporting the team one way or the other. Whether you’re a heavy tank soaking up damage or a little insect
I could be a Ha-Go while the enemy has Shermans. It’s my job to fight the infantry and it’s the Shermans job to blow me up. Will I get curb stomped yes but that’s the game for you
Plus I think there were variants of this tankette that had flamethrowers.
I think one of the issues with “light” vehicles is how they get categorized. Some “light” vehicles have substantial firepower like heavy guns, flamethrowers, etc. Others have light weaponry like just machine guns like the motorcycles
Do the vehicles with stronger firepower get lumped into the “tank” slot or does every vehicle get put into the same pool. So half tracks, motorcycles, armored cars, cannon half tracks, flamethrower half tracks, etc. Does the Puma get put into the family because it is an armored car. Does the Panzerwerfer 42
Or AA vehicles. Is the Wirbelwind a tank slot but the Flakpanzer I and various truck mounted AA are “light” vehicles
This is kind of why I think they might as well just keep everything under the 2 vehicle slots
